I think it's ridiculous to lump Merkel in the same category as Kim K in terms of what the two women have done for refugees.
As for Kim K's altruism and charity - I have no idea what she does or has done.
My point was that millions follow her and even if her motives are not pure (no reason for me to believe that it was only PR though) the message still gets out to millions.
Quite clearly and simply too.

I'd rather they speak up than stay silent, then again I am not full of anger towards either or believe they should shut up.

Yeah, Kim Kardashian is not responsible for millions of people having to flee their homes in the first place so I'll retract that statement towards Mrs West.

As for the anger you readily diagnose - I'd rather feel anger towards Merkel for what she has done than indifference or ignorance. Have to say though in these dark days it's easy to believe the feel good horseshit the media feeds regarding her stance on refugees.

She was responsible for creating the flood of refugees in the first place when her government pressured the EU into crippling Syria's economy by placing embargoes on it until civil unrest completely boiled over. Next she referred to the Dublin regulations for why Germany wouldn't accept any refugees until their number became too high to be ignored, and dead Syrians were found on her doorstep in Austria.

After that she killed a full flock of birds with one stone by announcing Germany would accept refugees. She gave her image in Europe a huge boost after being known as Madame Non for her extreme stance on Greece, she did the same even more so domestically where most who in the past voted for German Labour or Green are now fully behind her and she gifted German corporations a huge number of low wage workers and went further allowing companies to pay them less than minimum wage (which is already ridiculously low at 8.50).

If she really gave a fuck about refugees she'd have thrown her weight around to stop the killings in Syria and in Afghanistan instead of deploying troops there and accepting refugees afterwards.

Blaming Merkel for singlehandedly creating the refugee crisis in the first place completely exonerates everyone else involved.

That's not a reasonable position.

Nowhere did I say there's no one else involved. Plenty others are at fault, some even more than Merkel.

My point is she deserves no credit for taking in a number of the people (for her own selfish reasons to boot) for whose displacement she was responsible for in the first place.

It was NYE 2015. Horrible stuff but to be honest it's just a bigger scale of what happens everywhere in Germany around NYE, regardless of whether it's Germans, foreigners or refugees. Alcohol turning men into sexual abusers shocker basically.

It's also difficult to find reliable information as pretty much everyone distorts the facts to meet their agenda, especially so by officials and right wing parties. Most information that was broadcast early on such as hundreds of complaints filed for rape etc was completely fabricated - that's not to downplay the attacks or thefts that genuinely happened though

The one thing you can say for sure is that it was a complete failure on behalf of the authorities who tried to corral 1000+ in a confined part of the Cologne railway station when the facilities were insufficient for that magnitude of people celebrating, especially with regards to public security
