Like others said put him on the wing in big games and play an extra midfielder instead. He's just not doing enough to compensate for our numerical disadvantage in midfield.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

A flatter midfield trio of Xhaka-Ramsey-Elneny with a flexible Özil-Alexis-Walcott ahead of them.

Don't think he was that bad today. He was playing with a striker who was totally not involved, a left winger who was really poor and 2 cms who hasn't clicked.

There is a new excuse about the players around him every game. He's just in poor form, its not down to others its down to himself. He's a player who has gone up and down in form since he's arrived, its just a case of waiting it out. He's still worth having in the team because although he was poor last night he can still find a pass like the one that lead to the penalty.

This is Ozil, he's imperfect and Wenger doesn't always play to his strengths. Just have to allow him a bad month and hope it doesn't last too long.

Even when he's bad on the ball, he improves the team in ways that others do not with his positioning and off the ball running. Tactically he is by far our best player and that's a very underrated quality.

But we don't play a highly tactical game. What he does he does with native intelligence. Others need to be clued in as well. I remember one instance when Gibbs basically got tangled up with him on the left wing and he had to try to use him as a human shield to get past the PSG player. I shook my head in amusement.

While I agree that Ozil is in poor form, I don't dismiss the effect some of our lesser quality/immature players may have on his impact on the team.

100% this. I'm always thankful that we have Ozil, and when he's on form he is easily our best player and one of the best few in the league. But this doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticised when he underperforms (which he often seems to do in bigger games). I stil wish he would show the ability to 'make others around him better' more often, rather than dropping his level. Having said all that, I also agree that Wenger has still failed to attract the kind of players and play the kind of set up that would give him the best chance of showing what he is truly capable of more consistently.

I like Ozil but feel the criticism is valid when a player with his talent doesn't perform.

Not unexpected right. Most rich folks have these setups and footballers are right up there in the rich lists. Surely this is a large part of what agents do - hook their clients up with the right advisors for these things.

Of course, I don't think for a second that Özil even has a clue what actually happened but that doesn't absolve him of the responsibility to know what happens with his money.

This shit is rife in Real and Barca. Something needs to be done about these clubs who think they're above the law. Wouldn't surprise me if they are talking up their tax evasion schemes when signing players.

I think Spain is a particularly complicated example at the moment though. As far as I know this practise isn't illegal in England or most of Europe, and it wasn't illegal in Spain either up until recently when they decided to start plugging some juridical loopholes in order to stop rich tax evaders from funneling money out of the country.

Whether it's moral or not is another thing entirely though. I don't think it is, and I feel zero sympathy on a personal level for people who get caught up in the aftermath.

It would surprise me if they didn't as it's directly linked to the players' earnings and thus negotations. Of course they aren't going to call it tax evasion but will frame it as tax avoidance or another euphemistic bullshit term used in the industry and embarrassingly it's not even illegal often enough.

Real and Barcelona are certainly at the forefront with these tax dealings but don't expect the EPL to be any better, there's a reason why Arsenal's holding company is registered in Delaware, United on the Caymans or Spurs in the Bahamas. There's no way to tackle this as a simple football issue, it's way bigger than that and there's no way the English or Spanish FA, UEFA or FIFA are going to intervene at the footballing level when they're all more or less implicated in it and profit from it to varying degrees

No, their not. Kroenke Sports Enterprises is registered in Delaware but Arsenal Holdings is still registered in the UK. At any rate, that's an entirely different can of worms to players dodging taxes.

KSE owns the majority of shares of Arsenal Holdings, e.g. if Kroenke decides to sell his stake all tax matters will be handled according to where KSE is registered and not Arsenal itself. I'd say HMRC getting bent over by Kroenke is somewhat related to their Spanish counterparts being done in by Ronaldo or Mourinho.

And yeah, of course it's not exactly the same as players dodging taxes but it's not just players involved in it. Otherwise we wouldn't be talking about Real and Barcelona who as legal entities have been in trouble with tax laws often enough.

That's not the same as saying Arsenal's holding is registered in Delaware. Arsenal's Holding company is still registered in the Uk for tax purposes. Kroenke will get away with whatever he wants anyway but we knew that.
