There aint no finished product as good as Jones will become that we can afford. Cahill is a good, solid centre half, but he's not world class and never will be.

Yeah, but by the time Jones is a world class central defender [IF he ever becomes a world class player and IF he is actually really a central defender] we will have wasted a few more years in the wilderness.
It's not worth it. I have nothing against Jones, Oxlade and all these other kids, but if we are going after younger players, I want to bring in kids who have already proven they can perform at the highest level (Neymar or Hazard). We need to shift the balance of current vs future priorities.

He's played quite a few games at centrehalf, too. He's just a quality footballer mate. Everything you would want in an Arsenal centreback.

I know he's talented but koscielny supposedly is and will go on to be the next laurent blanc. Verms is young for a cb too. As are dj and bartley. Time to buy experience.

Plus it only seems to be the obvious young talent that go onto big things. Guys like senderos, denilson, bendtner, mancienne, bentley, babel and dos santos haven't gone on to things some thought they would

He doesn't look like he's 19. More like 30.

If we let him go there we need shooting, especially if he does have the £16M release clause that's being reported.

He's the real deal, Dules. I reckon Wenger has been waiting for another English star defender to come through, he would have loved to have gone in for Ferdinand all them years ago, or had John Terry come through at Arsenal - Jones is that good potentially.

He already has proven that he can perform at the highest level. He plays in the EPL whereas Neymar is in Brazil and Hazard plays in the ever declining Ligue 1. Not that the latter two aren't quality.

This is the game I saw where he most impressed me was against Man City. He played alongside Samba at centreback, and looked the best player on the pitch. His reading of the game was unbelievable, he won all the duels he went in for, and made some brilliant saving tackles. The only video I can find shows all the attacking stuff he did for some reason, which is impressive in itself, especially for a centreback, but it was his defending that really caught the eye that day.

Skysports.com has learnt Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones is at Manchester United having a medical as he closes on a move to Old Trafford.

The in-demand centre-half is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool but it would appear United have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals in a transfer race that could be concluded soon.

Liverpool were thought to be the early front-runners for the England Under 21 international but Sir Alex Ferguson, with a healthy transfer chest of his own, is set to land a player many believe will be a mainstay for the senior national side for years to come.

It is understood United have offered the player a five-year contract, despite widespread reports he was to undergo a medical at Liverpool's training ground.

The 19-year-old was supposed to travel to Denmark on Wednesday with the England Under 21s for this summer's European Championship.[/i]

It makes sense for him to choose United over Liverpool. Rio doesn't have more than a few years in him and his injury record is getting worse by the year.
