although hleb's numbers aren't the best, i am certain he'd improve the team. he is a mobile and technical player. he'd improve our passing game a lot.

Hleb would be a step backwards.
He might suit our style but our style's proved ineffective when it really matters.

Our passing game breaks down under pressure, unless all six attacking players are bang on form our style is unproductive and can be nullified by defences that feature rookie 18 and 19 year old defenders.

I would take 07/08 season over the other 6 (+ this season) trophyless season anytime, maybe 05/06 would be exception but Hleb was with us as well.

Hleb can really be direct and bring so many players into play with all the linkups.

Just the thought of bringing Hleb back sounds depressing. He's old and past and not half as quick as he used to be.

A player of his type was never going to become a success at Birmingham though.

He'd be a fantastic squad option tbh and it would sway Cesc a bit to have his best mate back at the club.

As for the "he was never going to make it at Brum" argument that just goes to prove what a limited player he is. Even the likes of Diaby would tear it up at Brum.

Some players only excel in teams that play certain type of football. They're limited in a sense, but become important cogs in suitable systems. Hleb was suited to our football and became one of our most important players in 07/08.

Anyway, there's no point discussing Hleb. He's past his best and will never play for Arsenal again.

I don't think it will be, at this stage.

What I do fear, however, is that we unexpectedly lose one or two of the bigger players, the Cescs, Nasris and Clichys of this world (yes, Clichy), and Wenger decides he needs to keep the rest of the squad together for the sake of cohesion.

I don't think it's that unexpected Asa I really think at least one of Cesc or Nasri will be off or at least try, Arsharvin if he were any younger too but age is no longer on his side. Any player worth his salt ( I'm not talking about those who would never have been playing at the highest levels but for Wenger) must be looking elsewhere now...surely they must see by now they aren't going to win any trophies or get the highest pay packet here so what's the point?

True that. I guess we don't have that sense of team camaraderie that makes me feel spurs for example won't lose many players even if they finish outside the top four

Nasri, Cesc, Clichy, Arshavin and possibly Sagna are all vulnerable to a move, obviously they won't all go but it's open season on them. The only key players I am 100% confident will be here are RVP, Schezney, Wilshere, Vermealen and Song for different reasons, the rest are either not the sort clubs like Real, Barca, Chelsea etc will be interested in and will probably not seek a move because this is as good as it gets for them or I couldn't care less if they moved on!
