Actually, I've changed my mind on Michu. As I was rewatching the West Brom match, I started thinking that we already have the players required (though not enough of them to control the game and create chances) which we hadn't been doing, largely due to poor tactics and tired performances (but they were clearly all up for it on the Saturday).
Considering our very finite budget, I'd rather we make do with Giroud and Podolski up front for now, and concentrate on a wide player. Jack at number 10 was a glimpse of the future, and with Caz flanking him to the right, he has somebody to count on to share the playmaking duties, and Arteta behind to constantly provide him with passes. I dunno how Loew made Podolski at LW work, but it clearly doesn't here. His game is far too laborious, instead of quick and powerful. His best work clearly comes from inside the box - his horrible miss aside, but he's a good finisher and doesn't strike me as the type to pass up too many chances. He can hold his own, and isn't as poor a passer as Giroud.
Michu/Ba, are they really a world away in terms of quality? I think no, and I also think they have settled better due to joining clubs that weren't undergoing a turbulent summer and where the weight of expectations hasn't been as massive.
I'd rotate Poldi and Olivier up front, hope that one of them works out, bring a wide forward for a reasonable sum in January who can contribute straight away, then get Cavani in the summer. 19 goals in 19 games this season. He's destined for greatness.
