Lloris wasn't available last season, at least probably not for less money. Lyon are fucked mate, their debt problem is very serious. All that spending that got them to dominate France caught up to them years ago and they needed CL money to simply make ends meet. Lloris is probably one of their highest earners (although he probably makes less than Chamakh for example) and they really have no choice but to sell at least 2 or 3 first XI players. They have no Benzemas lying around to help ease the blow either so it'll probably be a few well-paid (relative to L1) seasoned pros leaving, and Lloris has openly admitted to not being happy at OL. Remi Garde will have a massive task next season trying to at least get 3rd place with a worse team and I think it will end in tears for him.
I should note that I do rate Szcz, and I think that he could go on to be one of the world's best but there is a very real danger of that not materializing if he never has had to fight his way to the top because resting on his laurels is okay. That and a fair amount of his second half season form was truly drop-worthy, but the problem is was that the alternatives were far worse.
Anyways this is all moot because we're never going to sign him, but it's at least fun to talk about these sorts of things. Lloris will go to a top side in Italy (or possibly Germany). Could also see Spurs being attractive given that Friedel is 63 years old and all French players love England.
