Frei and Podolski strikes me as two good, realistic January transfers.
I don't want to overhype Podolski too much because I'm not sure he's really what we need but I like him, he's theoretically a good fit for a wide forward position in a 4-3-3, he's scoring for fun at the moment and he's seemingly available. It's the kind of solution we have to look at, even if it's a temporary one. We gave up the luxury of being able to cherrypick players when we acted so late in the summer transfer window.
As for Frei, he's a very good player who just never happened to get that opportunity at a big club. I think he would jump at one last chance before it's too late. Can't imagine he'd cost much.
