Basically, what we're all saying is that we should sign Neymar.

That seems like management 101 to me.

Worth noting that our best buy this summer - Arteta - was relatively cheap and that the expensive buys from last January - Torres and Carroll - were a waste of money.

Wasnt suggesting doing anything blindly - and 8/10 of the players we'd ideally move for would be expensive

also neymar would be good, but not the best we could go for - he's just flavour of the month in capi's dome cos he probably did some neat turn 40 yards from goal against some aids ridden brazilian mid table make up the numbers player

For starters, yeah, sign Neymar in January 🙂
Then sign Gotze in the summer.

Genuinely think that Torres is a no go for us.

He's on his way to being a Messi level talent. That unfortunately means that we will never sign him.

I know super quality comes at a price Dula, my point is that pure dross can also come at a premium.

As for Neymar being flavour of the month - sure, but no more so that Gotze is or Hazard was.
Truth is most people don't see any of these players regularly enough to make a proper call on them.
Mostly speculation and piecing together assessment made by pundits and "experts" and YouTube clips.
Not ruling out that some people have good instincts though, even with limited info.

For me, Gotze is the only one I've seen enough of to believe that he'd be a brilliant signing.

For the others, including Neymar, I'm just kidding (hence the 🙂 when I mentioned him), I don't really know enough about them to say.

To sum up Lord Dula.
No to Torres. Yes to Gotze.
No idea about Neymar.

My impression has been that Neymar doesn't have the work rate / determination to be a top, top player. The talent yes, the desire no. But really I don't know either.

You can watch him on Sunday at 10.30am in the club world cup final which will, in all likelihood, be against Barcelona.

I think Neymar has 3-4 'owners' but Santos still hold the majority stake.

If he's willing to sit on the bench, that would be a very good signing. We know Szczesny is our number one for years to come, so there's no point in having another young talented, but mentally fragile player on the bench who also wants to play for Poland.

It's an innovation that allows poor countries to retain / attract top players. Club economics otherwise would not allow Brazil to have all the good players its had in the last few years. I'm in favor of it until the clubs become truly professional.

As for Neymar, he was on fire this morning. I don't bother thinking about him. He has Madrid/Barca written all over him. Even if it emerged that we were his club of choice, City would come out with a 60m pound bid and 300 000 pounds a week salary.
