The BBC reported snipers executing protesters as "Israel quells terrorist threat" or some such.

Arsedoc does have a point. I remember in the 90s absolutely no one in Western news would report on massacres in Gaza or the Westbank, early reports from Aljazeera were dismissed as propaganda and conspiracy theories. Now at least the language in the media discourse has changed a bit, difficult for it not to happen with smartphones around

Not that it changes anything in terms of who's ultimately to blame of course, the culprit is still 100% Arab

The BBC took a sharp turn in favour of Israel in the mid 00's. They've been getting more and more biased towards them ever since.

Indeed. I'm not sure where the line for what counts as the West is drawn, but we got news about what was happening in the Westbank. It seemed like you couldn't go to any form of live music place in the late 90s and early 00s without seeing people wearing Palestine scarves in solidarity. I think we were one of very few places where it was really reported on though. It felt surreal talking to English-speaking people on forums and in IRC channels. I remember my first trip to the US in 2003 as a teenager. It was a prao thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TET) abroad and my teacher had arranged for me to spend a few days at a high school in Ohio towards the end of the trip. Both teachers and students seemed completely oblivious (but then again they were pretty oblivious about any going ons in Europe too).

I think people in general are more clued in about other parts of the world nowadays than they've been at any point in history, and it makes it all the more maddening when the lies and the narratives still persist at BBC and WaPo and their likes.

The major disservice is that our media ignores the day to day in Gaza, ignores that children are born and condemned to live in what is effectively a prison state, strangled by Israeli control and deprived of a fighting chance to live a better life alongside their families and friends.

The outbreaks of Israeli violence against unarmed and defenceless Palestinians is news that refocuses the attention, momentarily, invokes short lived anger and outrage, yet the ongoing suffocation of a whole people goes mostly unremarked upon, buried in the competitive arena of mass atrocity news.

Sweden has proposed a way forward to the paralysed UN security council that would include immediately sending a high-level disarmament mission to Syria to address outstanding issues on the use of chemical weapons “once and for all”, AP reports.

A Swedish draft resolution, circulated to council members on Thursday, would also express the council’s determination to establish “a new impartial, independent and professional” investigative body to determine responsibility for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

It would ask the secretary general Antonio Guterres to submit proposals to the council within 10 days. The draft would also give council support to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons’ fact-finding mission that Sweden’s UN ambassador, Olof Skoog, said “is on its way” to Syria to determine whether chemical weapons were used in the Damascus suburb of Douma last weekend.

Skoog said he expected the proposal to be addressed at Thursday’s closed-door emergency council meeting on Syria.

Asked in a TV interview whether France would join strikes on Syria, he said: "We will need to take decisions in due course, when we judge it most useful and effective.
