I don't think anyone is suggesting we can win the league by continuing to play as poorly as we're playing for the last few weeks. The idea is to continue picking up results while we play our way into form. The key to that is having a stable defence and this is where Jenkinson makes me nervous.

It's his attacking contributions that's the issue. Compared to Bellerin we're one man less than usual every time we attack.

Our patterns in attack are so, so wrong.

He wants us to play short passing and give-and-goes as we approach the D, but we don't commit enough players to force anything of it, nor do we have enough players with the requisite touch AND strength.

Özil is so fucking weak, any shoulder-to-shoulder and he's lost the ball and the opposition counter attacks.

He is indeed weak and that's why in the big games, he should be shunted out on to the wing, and we should play 3 CM's (Xhaka, Coquelin and Ramsey).

We have scored 2.4 goals per game so far this season, our best scoring ratio since 1934/ 35.

This will obviously go down as our fixtures pile up but we are on course to have a better scoring season than our past few. We need to stop letting in cheap goals now.

We've been unusually clinical in front of goal this season. I would like to see our conversion rate this season compared to recent seasons.

It's the best in the league and 2nd best in UCL, but that's also because we are way down the order in terms of shots attempted.

Which suggests that we're creating fewer but better quality chances, which usually points to a counter attacking style.

Suggest too that we are making better goal scoring chances. We know we rarely take pot shots. Should even out more with Ramsey back :p

We have 10 goals from just 11 shots on target in November. It's an entirely unsustainable rate. We will need to create more and shoot more to make things even anyway.

Overrated statistic. How do the three goals Bravo has already given away this season because he wasn't allowed to just pick up the ball and restart the game factor into this breakdown? Are the points he cost City irrelevant compared to what they have gained by forcing him to look for the short pass instead of resorting to a long kick?

I see the benefits very clearly when it comes to building the game from the back, but this goalkeeper nonsense that the likes of van Gaal and Guardiola have obsessed over in the last few years makes no sense to me. Modern keepers are already good enough with their feet to handle a backpass without freaking out. We're talking about so very few occasions per game where Bravo is even in a situation where he'd have to act differently than your average PL keeper, and the gain isn't obvious to me. What huge advantage is there in the goalkeeper passing to the fullback instead of just picking it up? How many attacks can anyone honestly remember were the result of the keeper playing it short at the back and catching the opposition off guard?

I thought you know better football than that question. When a team is playing possession, and you want to start tiki taka, and you have a goalie that is 1.7 m, and a former Olympic short passing champion, you play from the back. You have to make a decision.
