What really made the difference tonight was Alexis's goal, I think. We've been in a situation so many times where we needed something to open up the opposition and didn't get it, because no one was able to convert a half chance into a goal.

If we had entered half time with 0-0 on the scoresheet I doubt we would have ended up winning the game. Or it might have turned into another Swansea performance. The margins are small in those key moments, but they end up having big ripple effects.

it definitely looked like our boys skipped the video scouting sessions for this one. their attackers caught our defenders on the hop a few times in the first half

Pity Xhaka is suspended it probably would have been a good time to play Xhaka and Coq against Boro. Not sure if Elneny and Coq is too much of a risk, although we may have no choice.

Can always rush Ramsey back as well - as I understand he's basically physically fit and their just giving him a pre-season so that he comes back sharp.

I would play Elneny rather than rush Ramsey. Wenger is doing the right thing not rushing Ramsey this time. If its a short term thing for Caz then Elneny can handle a game or two. Its not like its Flamini or last seasons Arteta we are talking about anyway, Elneny is a very decent player.

the kind of flyer we need to be taking on players when we have a settled squad like now. sure beats spending 20m on squad players because they come from better leagues.

Think Theo's goal was important as well, up until then we had been looking very ropey in defence.

Obviously when you win 6-0 those details get lost in the celebrations but it looked pretty dodgy defensively for a while in the first half. Massive gap in between the defence and the midfield.

Perez didn't look particularly that fast in his League Cup debut, but last night he did look pretty rapid. Maybe there is something in all the talk about his lack of minutes being possibly fitness related. At least I hope so, it might have been against a Bulgarian team that had pretty much given up but he looked very good last night.

A case could be made for every one of the first 3 goals as they were still looking dangerous till Ox's goal forced them to open up allowing us to pick them off on the counter. Alexis' one was the all important first goal which allowed us to relax and encouraged us to continue doing what we were doing. It also wasn't a gimme as that dribble and chip effort was Henry/Bergkamp/Pires level.

i think it comes back to the coq-santi pairing needing someone with an engine to tuck in from the flank and make a 3, like ramsey has done in the recent past. when playing a strong opponent, it would very risky playing santi-coq with 3 attack minded players in front of them
