Hopefully this wasn't just because Ludogorets were shit at playing the offside trap, but our forwards looked much better at staying onside tonight than they have in any other game this season. Much calmer and more patient with their runs. Hopefully it's something we've been working on in training, because we've needlessly wasted a lot of chances like that recently.

Yeah, would agree with this. Previously we are always quick to be tempted to jump the gun and claim this, especially the last 3 seasons but this is probably the first time we have the results and performances to go with it.

Why is this team different, we went on similar runs in 2013 and this time last year. Or is it because the strength of our squad is better than those two teams?

Very enjoyable evening! Especially glad we got to rest some players who needs it, the Özil hat trick, and that both Chambo and Lucas had positive performances. Only negative on the night for me was that we looked well off the pace defensively in the first half. Thankfully, Ospina made a couple of crucial, difficult saves to keep us out of trouble.

Like to see Lucas and Chamberlain showing they deserve more minutes. Lucas Perez looking mighty quick which should help him integrate into our free flowing forward set.

Very important saves by Ospina as a goal for them there changes everything.
He was my MOTM.
Our CBs were looking uncharacteristically shaky as Cazorla deep and Coquelin higher up wasn't working and Bellerin's pace saved us a couple of times in the first half.

I was really surprised to see us go for the kill right to the end. We normally ease off towards the end and once the subs are made.

i think that's the benefit of having players fighting for a shirt. ox, el neny, lucas, gibbs, ospina, and to a lesser extent coq - all guys who are fighting for a start, and their eagerness to impress kept the teams energy levels up right to the end

Yeah, definitely. I think there's a collective effort in the squad to make a bit of a statement too. Plenty of players have stated that they felt like they wasted a rare opportunity last season. I remember Vieira saying that the embarrassing fashion in which that team bottled the 02/03 season acted as fuel for the invincible season. They were eager to show that they were better than that. I think we're seeing something similar here, and we still have room for improvement. We haven't really seen Ramsey this season for instance. Add him to the mix and suddenly this team has a bit of everything going for it.

Okay, so we won quite comfortably in the end...

But looking back our defense and shape was absolutely woeful a lot of times in that first half. What a mess.

Agreed although i was impressed by the speed of their attacking players.
We are no slouches but we couldn't dispossess them like we did chelsea.
Luckily we were able to use our superior skill (passing) to overwhelm them as no one is faster than the ball and our strikers did the rest.
