People have grown used to writing off 22 year olds who grow up under Wenger. 2 more years under late-stage Wenger, and Iwobi would’ve been a carcass.

That's very true. I just can't get excited about any of our promising young players anymore. I look forward to the day that changes.

There are a lot of accusations one could level at Wenger, but he had the right idea about many things too that the fans are clueless about. Iwobi's talent is definitely one of those things. I don't buy the idea that Wenger wasted him or handled his development wrongly. Iwobi is a good player now and he was a good player then. There was always going to be growth pains along the way. Just look at Anthony Martial and Kingsley Coman who are roughly the same age and frequently wish listed. Both have had a couple of tough seasons where they haven't played regularly and didn't perform consistently when they did play. It's part and parcel for young footballers.

Reiss Nelson is 18 and has only started two league games in his life, and people are on his case now too. There seems to be very little patience in football at the moment, not just at Arsenal.

AW may well have had an eye for talent but for mind he neglected the fundamentals in development.
Every talent we've had that has broken into the senior squad has stalled from their 1st season onwards, because AW's playing strategy was based upon player intuition, and he focused the training on improving their technical skills and providing playing time to grow.
Just about every talent to break through got flogged in the debut seasons.

Martial was doing ok at MU under LVG,
but Mourinho is not interested in 'finishing' player development because he focuses on the now.
IIRC Coman was out with a serious knee injury.

Correct me if I'm wrong (as I probably am),
but Iwobi strikes me as being more of a Draxler type than a Walcott or Ox.
I think he would thrive in either a midfield 3 or as part of either a wide or narrow AM line.
I'd have liked to have seen him under Rosickys' wing.
