All those guys are products of their time and they don't understand how football has changed. So Hansen still thinks like its 1985 and Neville like its 1998. Thats the only real difference, that and Nevilles fancy graphics.

Yeah pretty much. I'm not fond of this "product of their time" excuse btw (not saying you're excusing them mind), there are geriatrics with a profound understanding of the game today and there are thousands of youngsters repeating the usual "big honest lad getting stuck in there" horseshit you get from the media.

It's not as much a lack of understanding but pride in people imo that's not allowing them to see the sport for what it is, instead twisting reality to suit the teachings they received in their younger days which even in defeat makes them the good guys vs the tricky cheating Johnny Foreigner

Anyway got a bit off track here, fuck both Alans, Hansen and Shearer. I'm going to rewatch the game now

Neville has no credibility. Couldn't cut it in management and like most of these ex players has fallen back on the easy way out. He posted some of the most provocative shit on Twitter and got so much abuse I think he finally gave up. The gap between playing and managing is vast and this is why a majority of them fail at the latter.

I get your point though. Neville is best of a bad bunch, at least he doesn't go through the motions and is fairly 'passionate' with his views.

I don't think I've seen anyone on MotD say anything clever or new about football, ever. Cruyff was a great analist back in the day on Dutch tv. Louis van Gaal was really good too, even though he is a madman.

Maybe he was just a breath of fresh air but i remember Clarence Seedorf being really good when used by the BBC.
Unfortunately Linekar, Hansen and Shearer got in a panic, ganging up to drown him out with their banalities.

Also, is it just me or has Theo's technique improved from last season? He can finally control the ball and run with it it seems. Loving his work rate as well.

Keown used to be good on MOTD (or MOTD2). Lee Dixon is good. Sousness is actually pretty good too, cuts through alot of the English media hype. Gary Neville is way down the list of pundits for me. I don't really hold him in higher regard than most of the usual morons. He's just not quite as bad as Michael Owen or Jamie Carragher, etc

Theo has shown a high technical level before too. We have spoken on here itself about how Wenger has made Theo a footballer. Unfortunately he ends up injured just when he reaches that level. Hopefully he stays fit now.

What we are seeing for the first time from Theo is proper strength. He doesn't get pushed off easily anymore.

Tyler lost his top billing many years ago. The best commentator out there is Ian Darke and has been for sometime. Never a dull moment.

I think Tyler has been commentating since the late 70s/early 80s (possibly even earlier than that). Hard to be engaging and 'on it' for 40 years plus! Look at John Motson, he lost his way 6/7 years ago.

Only just got on here since the game. That was awesome. Long time coming and a real shame it couldn't have been done to them under Mourinho just once. Felt worth the wait though and having had a pretty long and tiring week dealing with some family stuff I really needed it. Great goals, but best part for me was probably Fabregas being hauled off, destined to warm the bench for the foreseeable future with his contribution to the game going unremembered.

Tbh nothing particularly insightful from Keown either. I do think most of these pundits are fine though. You guys ask too much of them. It's some of the commentators that I find cringeworthy.
