It looks like thats part of it. Plus he was dropped by England. And Wenger benched him quite a bit last season. He might have had a bit of a reality check. He's 27 and probably expected to be at the top of his game now, instead he'd hit a bit of a low point. His games entirely based on speed and finishing, without his speed he wont have chances to finish so he must know he's not going to be a top player at 31. He has 3 years tops to make a real impact with his career.

If he does have a strong season it would be the perfect time to cash in on him. It's not like he's going to get younger and less injury prone. A Walcott in top shape would be worth at least 25-30 million in this market. That's a good chunk of money that could be put towards a world class winger.

Possibly, but how long do you think he will sustain that level? He'll be 28 years old next summer, going on 29, with a well-known injury history to add to his general inconsistency. Most of his game is based on speed too and it's starting to go.

I would have sold Theo anytime in the past 5 years. However one thing i have always maintained was that i see him as a supersub/squad player. The problem was both theo AND wengers continued under investment in squad.

Though if he does have a strong season, given his age and experience and the clubs push towards investment, it might be a good idea to have him as a squad player.

If he has a great season, I think it would be smart to cash in. He'd be a 28yr old pace merchant with impending athletic decline, and a spotty performance record. We would definitely need to bring in a top player, though.

We've got plenty of deadwood to get off our books if we need to generate funds/clear wages.

I don't expect Walcott to keep this up all season but if Walcott can strike a balance and keep putting a committed performance and be a semi-reliable source of goals, he'd be a good player to have in the squad, even if we get a better player in.

There's no reason anymore to settle for less. Theo has shown he has a lot in him, though it would be silly to think he actually found more talent.
He forgot the silly ideas and the inevitable frustration they bring, he thinks positively about his game and concentrates on using his strengths, he works extremely
hard all game everywhere - and his in the best physical form of his life. We should be expecting no less from him from now - he simply can. Doesn't mean the goal return is automatic, but Theo's now extremely important regardless.

Still a bit hard to believe the transformation. amazing.

Reckon three out of four guys are probably exit bound regardless of Wenger. Ox unless he signs an extension will be in the last of year of his contract, the way he is playing he might be thinking it'll be better to take his chance elsewhere anyway since he is young. With Perez in, Welbeck is probably lower down the pecking order than when was at Man U. Think either him or Giroud, or maybe both are going this summer. As for Gibbs, he wanted to leave this summer anyway so he's a goner as well unless he overtakes Monreal.

Your only rationale should be forward-looking. What role will he play and how will he contribute to Arsenal? We shouldn't look back and use the length of his development as rationale for keeping him.

I love what I've seen from Theo this season. He's gone from bane of our existence to our best player so far this season. I like what I've seen so far. He's already passed his tackles for all of last season, and he's flying in for headers and tackles instead of running away. But remember: we are only 1 1/2 months into a 9 month long season. It is still early days to be calling him a changed man

Wenger is working on Chamberlain and one can see that. He is giving him playing time wherever possible in the hope of playing him back to form. Giroud, Per, Debuchy are goners after this season regardless of Wenger IMO. So could be one of nacho and Gibbs if we get a new LB. Not sure what to make of Welbeck, though i think he might be given a season to prove form and fitness after his return from injury, even by a new manager
