Roma is a good place for him. Spalletti will teach him some positional discipline.

Roma would be an excellent move for him, he doesn't need to go to a club just to play, he needs to go somewhere he can improve. Playing in a more tactical league will do him wonders in the long term. Roma play a more attacking brand of football, he'll have Chesney and Vermaelen to keep him company as well.

From a footballing perspective, going to Italy or Spain for a year makes perfect sense. However, as a father, he then has to spend a significant amount of more time away from his kids. Personally, I'd choose a London based club if that was on. This isn't an easy choice.

I will definitely watch him wherever he goes next season which makes it preferable that he moves to Roma over Crystal Palace.
