Many more kneelings and protests at games today. Sad and excrutiating part is this was supposed to be a forward discussion about race relations. Instead it's turned into a circus about first amendment.
Kaepernick
Bit disrespectful to refuse to stand, but it's his right so he can kneel if he wishes. It's no big deal I guess.
Why would you even play the national anthem before an NFL game? Would be so weird to hear the national anthem before Arsenal played.

I was thinking about this too. Imagine every PL game was draped in Union Jacks and St. Georges cross and God Save the Queen was played before each match. It'd be utterly mental.
Probably one of the advantages of a constitutional monarchy is that you don't end up deifying national anthems or flags to the same degree. Then again, the symbol of your country becomes some old lady in a big house - swings and roundabouts, really.
Believe there was a YouGov survey that said that the majority don't know God Save the Queen beyond the first verse.
Just seen an online poll today where around a 3rd said they knew all the words of the Irish anthem, TBF it's in Irish and most people just kind of make the right noises throughout.

Shannon is right. The whole thing was hypocritical and misses the point.

My only comment on kaepernick and other athletes is : what took y'all mofos so long.
Good start, but it has to be a United effort. America really only cares when something affects its image or it's bottom line.
Imagine the look if ALL the black athletes took a knee or refused to stand before every sporting event where the anthem is played. Won't that be something?! Football, basketball, baseball.
Shame the country into real action. This current mentality that- It's okay to cheer them on when their on tv competing and winning for your teams is cool, But outside of that, it's okay that they are second class citizens- has to end.
Has to be a united effort though, or else it'll fizzle out.
God bless you, CK.
Said this a year ago.
It's such a shame what it took to get others to join in.
And it's a shame that the conversational waters are now so murky.
Unfortunately your post from a year ago is still where we are and will remain as the hypocrites (ray lewis, is that you?) will have crawled back into their shells next week
To use NFL terminology, Colin got a few yards, maybe even the odd first down but no touchdown as his issue about police brutality has been turned into an argument about patriotism.
Trump playing to his base and artificially stirring up this controversy is probably a way of drowning out criticism from his failure to repeal obamacare.
This is much safer than the hornet's nest that is north korea!
