I can't believe the way Wenger has wasted this guy.
that signing was the biggest slice of luck ever. the squad was in a rank state at the time. the ensuing complacency in the wake of a miraculous get out-of-jail type signing still kills me to this day. and it speaks the larger issue of how lazy we are in the wake of a close shave. we've had miraculous signings like sanchez and ozil, we had so many close calls of missing top 4, so many crumbled title challenges that were spared by the winning of a cup. those things aren't treated as fillips that give us a new lease of life - they're treated as laurels to rest on
people sometimes get stuck judging each transfer window in isolation, but in reality it's been half-measure built upon half-measure for 4 years running. when you make shit decisions and just let them marinate for years before addressing them, all you create is a state of unending crisis where all you can do is chase your own tail. i've seen people ascribe this problem current of being unable to add to the wage book as being a result of weak commercial deals. that is a factor, but the more pressing one is why we've stockpiled an immovable pile of deadwood on the books that is now literally preventing us from improving the team
the grim determination to do the bare minimum over the last 4 years will haunt the club for the forseeable future
