i was never a huge ozil fan tbh, even since his bremen days. his signing was exciting to me on a symbolic level, more than anything else. retaining him is - to me - more about our status/reputation, and because we have enough other problems with the squad in need of fixing

in an ideal world i'd cash in and get another top level wide player. we'll probably never play with him as a 10 again, so you have to question if he's worth the $250k/pw

lol I agree, I could see that thinking from him. It's why I didn't originally include Ronaldo as people would have said he'll be too old for Wenger to drop that kind of amount on him. But for a player in his prime, with that kind of quality, I'm sure Wenger would spend whatever he could afford to get him on board.

When Messi slows down physically a bit, I reckon he will still be the best number 10 in the world for another couple of years. I see him still being one of the very best players in the world at 34-35, albeit perhaps in a position where his team relies on him less for goals.

The story came out when AW was spending a lot of time in Paris when there was all the talk re Rabiot, and AW was seen in a meeting with Rabiot's mother who is his agent. Must have been 2(??) summers ago before PSG sold Zlatan.
I'm not saying that it's gospel, just that I had read it on the web. I only remembered about it as a result of Big Willie's comment.

I've got better things to do with my limited free time than make shit up so as to hang on AW - he does a good enough job that I don't need to do so.

Some people here have a warped notion that anything posted must be factual or is automatically claimed as being so by the poster, and others have an elitist view in regards to validation of sources.
My mistake for thinking that this site was meant to be about discussion and opinion in general.

Take it easy Anzac, it's just really unlikely that Cavani would've moved for £50m last summer, or that Wenger would've been in for him at all if he was going to pass it up due to no resale value.

That's the kind of thing you sort of do need some evidence for, or at least the link to the original article so the rest of us can give it some scrutiny.

Wenger very adamant in his pre match presser that Alexis and Chamberlain will not be allowed to leave even if it means making a 'financial sacrifice'.

I am sure I missed nothing on Ozil so it seems the media doesn't quite care about him at the moment.

Yeah, it's good to see. Also said he wants to keep Jack for his final year. I wouldn't mind having him for the Europa League and the cups but I can only assume we're not getting any decent offers for him.

Jack's touch, passing and vision is still excellent. If he can follow a plan for match fitness and regain it, he will be an asset in my opinion and not just in the Europe League. We lose a lot without Xhaka and Ramsey in midfield. Elneny and Coquelin have their strengths but are still limited.

Would love for Jack to stay but it shouldn't be at the cost of not signing another midfielder because we definitely need one with more ability than Elneny or Coquelin given Ramsey's lack of durability

I agree. Good news on Jack. I still retain a glimmer of hope for him. Guy is insanely talented.
