rumours we've made another improved wage offer to him. tbh i'm open to blowing the wage structure apart at the top bracket. when shitsters come around with their hand out at renewal time, give them a lowball take it or leave it offer. if they all start leaving, it's no skin off our nose, as they're replaceable. this problem of stockpiling overpaid middling-to-lower tier players has to end. we went through it with the likes of vela, almunia, denilson, squillaci and co, and we're going through it again. they're virtually a toxic asset sitting on our books

It depends what his demands are but with 30 goals and 15 odd assists his name it would have to be pretty insane to not be worth it in the current market. I am pretty fed up of the money being spent in football though, I don't think it's a game we should play.

Yup. He's top 5 players in the premier league. I don't know what he is allegedly asking for, but it isn't unreasonable if he wants to be paid like a top 5 player in the league.

Problem is that we consistently send mixed messages.
We claim that if a player leaves it is for the money rather than ambition,
yet we consistently do exactly that by throwing stupid money at them to stay,
instead of 'simply' doing what is needed to win things.
Doesn't help the strategy when AW constantly says that winning titles is not the most important thing.

I wouldn't cave in either but we'd need to be genuinely ambitious in the market when replacing him

I don't know that 400k is what he wants, but it's reportedly what he has told the likes of Bayern & Co so as to discourage/reject their offers.
It's not the first time AW has tried to make it about wages as opposed to a perceived lack of ambition. IMO it's one of his failings as a manager that he assumes that everyone wants the same outcomes as himself and works to the same timeframes to achieve the outcome, whereas thee genuine elite players measure their career in terms of silverware.

That's old contracts though, I'm sure with the recent inflation in the transfer market when those guys contracts come up for renewal they will be asking for 300k minimum, and this is most likely Sanchez's last big contract. 400k is a lot but 300k is reasonable, pretty sure we just signed Laca on a 200k contract too.

Pogba was reported when he signed to be on £290k

Those figures may not be accurate but I'd say they're as relaible as the claims Sanchez wants £400k

Sanchez or no Sanchez the next couple of seasons doesn't really matter, unless we sign another 2-3 players of his caliber. Which we won't. So just let him go.

It's not as simple as that though. There's no guarantee Sanchez is going to keep producing past this season. He's been playing non-stop football for the past few years with no summer break and is already starting to suffer from those constant niggling injuries and he's going to be nearing 30. He'll also have no resale value.

We'd be better off spending it on a young replacement. We need to become much sharper and ruthless in this area because not being able to lure guys like Dybala, Mbappe and Dembele is costing us millions.
