Higuain went for 80m last year. A desperate team chasing the last year or two of its opportunity might pay 60 or more for Sanchez, especially if they get money from Real, Barca or United for one of their other existing stars. Someone like Chelsea, would be a credible Sanchez threat - using the Hazard money they are believed to receive from Madrid

This is the key thing. Higuain had two years left on his contract and Napoli would have preferred to just see it out; he would have been past thirty after that and no one would have gambled huge transfer money on him. Juve wanted him and had no choice but to activate his release clause.

No one's going to pay record-breaking money for Sanchez this summer when they're free to negotiate with him 6 months later. If we can get £50 million we should take it quickly to avoid spending the entire summer haggling over crumbs. I'd even be willing to let him go for less if someone like Real Madrid came for him, just to avoid selling to Chelsea. We could then take the Sanchez money, use another £50 million from our transfer chest and lodge a £100 million bid for Mbappe maybe. That would be an ambitious thing to do. It's ridiculous money but that's just the way football is nowadays. Anyone who wants a world class talent up front is going to have to pay through their nose.

Im really hoping we can get a swap deal done. For exanple if morata was for sale i think he'd potentially pick a more attractive option than us if we matched fees with other top clubs. While if we can offer Madrid Sanchez for morata it would give us a unique barganing chip in that negotiation.

For sure. If we're losing Özil and Sanchez we need something bigger than Morata in the summer though. I have a lot of time for the bloke but he's the new Morientes, not the new Henry. We really need to locate the next mega striker and go all in.

Agreed but im sure my worry is the same as yours we sell sanchez for £50m and then get gazumped trying to replace him and end up with another lucas/ podi tier player.

I've been sipping a 40 oz, thinking about this. We should take the ultimate gamble this summer. Do three things
1) tell Ozil and Sanchez to extend or see out their contracts with us, and risk losing one or both to a continental team in January. But at least guarantee one more season with them
2) convince them of our intent with two big purchases - Mbappé plus one
3) fund by selling Walcott and a few other merry men.

Only a club our our complete idiocy would be imagine situation paying £70m for butt off like mustafi and xhaka combined and making a meager £50m for Sanchez.

I feel like this is the same fan discussion over idiot player deal that we could have given any date between 2005 and today. Shocking really but that is the club and management just coasting through the same tired errors repeatedly.

it sounds insane but i actually could see us selling to another rival. wenger isn't confrontational and is super protective of player well-being. if alexis is adamant about leaving arsenal but not uprooting to another country, selling to a rival isn't as laughable as people think. it would reinforce our reputation as a club that puts player interests first to whatever end, as well as being unfazed about not competing for titles

Speedy, replace indefinite articles with definite articles, and that meaning changes signinifcsntly. I would be careful about using that statement as guidance for any decision. Just tell him you're not selling him, and go buy some players.
