It's like we are looking at a mix of the various pressing styles - not all of which rely upon closing down the player on the ball, as such it's little wonder that it doesn't work.

Sanchez is very much ball oriented whilst Ozil is passing lane oriented. The rest look like they are access oriented, but are too far off their man to be effective.
Even when they are close enough they are still ineffective in that I saw Bayern passing the ball to a player surrounded by 3-5 AFC players, move, and then receive the ball back from the player without any AFC players making any move to intercept the ball or close the movement.
Bottom line we mark the zone and are reactive/passive.
