The mistake isn't this deal. The mistake was letting it get to this point. Right now if a whole new team came in and made this deal I'd say they were right and that they had no other choice. Letting it get to this stage was ridiculous though. And we could see Ozil join them in the summer for nothing in return.

Sanchez is a money grabber and I don't understand as he hasn't even won much in his career and could pick up three trophies this season with guardiola and much more over the coming years. Sad for him really.

Even worse than a money grabber is a trophy grabber. Do you think he will feel he has earned the league trophy? And even the Champions League. People would argue he had very marginal input unless he's the one scoring the winner. Maybe he's a bit damned either way. So he chose the duckets.

Why would he not have earned the Champions League trophy is he went to City and they won it? Because he didn't help them through the group stage?

Let's be honest, most of us would do the same. We're always judging footballers but they are employees like the rest of us.

Speak for yourself. There are loads of people who I know who wouldn't move for better pay. There's plenty of footballers too.

Even if that was the case, who gives a shit, he's joining Man fucking United. I really couldn't give a toss how much richer he is because of it.

This is not 'better pay', this is being set for life both for him whatever extended family depends on him. Not saying he would be poor at City or would have to drive a bus after his career there, but getting paid almost twice as much is a factor. Especially for a guy with his background.

Pretty sure he and his extended family are already set. Of course money is a factor, it's why he's taken it and he has every right to. But the idea that the decision is a given and anyone in his position would have taken is simply wrong.

If he genuinely has philanthropic motivations then good for him, but you hear that line every time any footballer chooses money over all and I don't buy it. I don't get why football fans these days go out of their way to justify multi-millionaires choosing money over sporting ambitions.

Maybe the rumours were right all along and we really couldn't afford (from a wage bill limit perspective) to pay both him and Sanchez massive new wages.

Then again, if that's true then why are we haggling for Mkhitaryan and possibly Aubameyang right now.

i dont buy those rumors. we've already shipped out a ton of wages without factoring in alexis, and we'll be shifting more off the books in the summer when mert and santi come off the books.

.. MD, don't forget that our opex also needs to absorb some 300,000 pounds a week for Aubameyang. That's worth about the wages of 3 of those guys we just shipped out. Many of them were on 2nd or 3rd contracts or signed for nothing, so their contracts count for nothing on the income statement.
