Until now I thought it suited them both okay, but Özil really went up a gear when he got that central role to himself after the switch to 4 at the back.
I think it's different. He's still required to make those runs back into his half to protect the wingback, will he have the legs to do that ? How often in a match ? And his explosivity is much more important in such a role.
I'm advocating for a similar role that Conte has given Hazard this season ie a free role in a front 2, not tasked with chasing back the opposition RB. He just pops up everywhere in those central areas. He actually played that role for Chile in the last world cup.
