Why? If you cancel his contract you pay the remainder of his salary right away and guarantees that you'll get 0 games from him.

If you don't, you'll pay his salary later which is better from a NPV perspective, plus you'll probably get more than 0 games and if you're lucky you might get something from his sale (at the very least, you can't get less than the 0 you get from canceling his contract).

It also frees up a spot meaning we can sign an actual squad player for cover instead of counting on someone who can’t be counted for.

Has he got injured while out on the lash or something? It doesn't sound like it is down to something he is doing, some players bodies just aren't up to it. Like Tierney for example, body just isn't made for the tough schedules.

Just glad that White is getting operated on. He hasn’t looked himself for a long time. As much as everyone likes to go on about how we have too many defenders, White has had to play non stop for 2 years due to the Timber, Cala and Tomi injuries, and Zin’s indifferent form.

We need him back to full end-to-end intensity.

True but it's a shame White didn't trigger whatever injury has necessitated this surgery before he sat out the Euros.

I'm reading Calafiori is definitely back in training (see here for example) so that's a blessing.

Maybe there's a reason our defenders (especially the wide ones) end up being crocks. Arteta's preferred style of play requires them to sprint up the field to be involved with our setup play (overlaps, etc) and then sprint back to defend... Over and over and over again. That takes a toll..
