Panda get the feeling anyone who's not totally broken at this point is going to get whatever injections they need to push through until summer. Wouldn't be surprised to see quite a few out early next season as a result.

Qwiss Yep, good point. I think that's another reason why we need midfielders: look at how much Rice and Zubimendi have played. None of them have natural backups in this squad. Merino at a stretch maybe, but he's currently out with a broken foot. And while Norgaard seems like a decent bloke, if he ever has to start five difficult games in a row it'll cost us enough points to maybe blow a title race.

Qwiss Yep it's one of the reasons I'd like to see MLS and Nwaneri re-integrated early next season.

Theoretically they should be fit, fresh and hungry. Like new signings as Wenger would say.

Klaus I don't know whether that's true about Norgaard, always seemed very solid for Brentford but his level is moot if Arteta won't use him. We need someone in the Merino mould that Arteta loves giving minutes too just a bit more defensive.

Anyone else think we should rest the entire first 11 for the Southampton game? Give Rice,Saka etc a extra few days off

Sicario2 I think most of them should get some sort of run out but I'd be starting Norgaard, Martinelli, MLS, etc and playing them thought the 90 while splitting minutes for the first XI

Can't rest too many people in an FA Cup quarter. I don't think it'll do much good either, we always start slowly after an international break. They need the game to get back into the flow.

As we should, it would make a 17 day break for most of our players, that could be huge for the last push. If we can get our pressing back we will run over teams

HomeSteak I don't know if we can achieve 90% given the injuries, but we should sit out Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Rice, Saka. And, of course, Hincapie, Eze and Madueke are out injured.
I think Havertz, Martinelli, MLS, White, Norgaard, Trossard, Jesus, Mosquera (and maybe Gyokeres) should be in the reckoning, along with the kids.

The last time we had a 17 day break, this time last season, Gabriel came back and pulled his hamstring 20 mins into the game and was ruled out for the season.

It's good for players playing through pain and need time to heal up, not so much for players who are fine.

Claudius Gyokeres will have played 2 very competitive internationals. I wouldn't start him, give him 20 off the bench if needed. If not needed play AHA.

First that's not true, like at all, Gabriel played 90 minutes for Brazil and then 9 days later got the hamstring injury in the Fulham game I think, so no idea what 17 day break you are talking about, he played for Brazil, probably had 1-2 days off to get back to the UK max, then trained like normal to get ready for the game, and he got injured. So not even close to 17 days off, like at all. Second, its not like they give them 17 days off and they sit in bed, I'm sure they are doing recover work and training. This only a good thing, you will see

Qwiss Agree. Same applies for Calafiori. His manager says he and Tonali have been a cut above the domestic players fitness-wise. We should get Tonali as well to rotate with Rice and Zubi

Claudius Tonali seems to be overvalued by Newcastle. Makes sense if you are United and need a starter but I'm not sure we can really spend close to £100m on a back up player.

I didn't mean it literally. It would be uncanny if we also had a 17 day break last season with all our players falling out. I've not actually counted the days in either case, but the point was some players also had a long break last season and got injured. If players are carrying an issue then it's well timed but at this stage of the season, players need to be peaking. If you're fit, then it's poorly timed because 3 weeks off or whatever means you quickly become cold and the players will look disjointed. It's good that we have 2 cup games before the PL so players can get some rhythm back.
