Holding tipped over as he chased a ball over the sideline, I think. There was no tackle that I remember. Either he injured the knee while trying to slow down or when it hit the grass. In both cases it feels like the kind of injury you get when the ligament's been systematically weakened in some way.

Guess I must be remembering it wrong then. Thought I remembered him doing his knee when Rashford tackled him nastily. Or were those 2 separate incidents?

I think Rashford pushed him in the process. Nothing malicious but I'm sure there was contact.

I don't think there's nearly enough evidence to subscribe to the idea that Emerys new training methods are to blame for the injuries we've suffered this season but at the same time it might well be linked to it.
This doesn't necessarily mean his methods are wrong but that a change in training intensity, structure etc can cause momentarily additional strain which is all too natural given the massive change in fitness in our players - another reason to give the man more time for his methods to succeed. We've seen the same happen at City and Liverpool the players there didn't adjust to their new coaches required intensity overnight.

Didn't we fire some head physio/doctor guys like Lewin in the end of last season? Burgess seemed to get more power as well. So it's very likely we had quite some changes in terms of conditioning.

So 6-9 months out for Bellerin. Means we might even have a slow ramp-up next season.
Do we need to look for a starting right back? Should we get a right back plug for the rest of the season or are AMN/Lichsteiner enough?

I worry that the squad is reaching breaking point. If we are already so broken in January, what could happen by March? Is it too risky not to bolster defense now?

Is it at breaking point? We have Mustafi and Dinos as cover at centre back and AMN and Stephan at Rb. AMN is probably better than anything you’ll find in the market now. I don’t get the panick. In the summer we would have probably needed some completion for Hector anyway.

Also on Holding, Sky mentioned at the weekend during the Spurs game that he got his injury as a result of the change in surface when he was forced off the pitch by the challenge.

When will Dinos be fully ready, and how hard do we want to push Koscielny?
The two guys at left back are always one tackle away from injury.

He’s been back in full training for a while and has played one U23 game already. Valid point on Kos but Mustafi can fill in if he needs a break.

I don’t think we can sign a third left back in case the first two get injured.

Two big injuries are a blow but I don’t think it’s the end of the world, we still have 8 players for 4 positions, 9 if you include Jenkinson...

What I will say is I don’t think we can afford to play the back 5 anymore without pushing our luck.

We are cursed as a club. Only explanation. It fucking sucks and I actually feel sorry for these kids who have these long term injuries. We did laugh/celebrate at Kane getting injured so this is karma I guess.

You got to give Emery some leeway as well. 3 long term injuries in 6 months, two of them our top 5 players so far this season.

We aren’t cursed. We have a back four where your best central defender has been breaking down for the last 3 years, plus two injury-prone left backs. As a starting point, that means this area of the pitch will always be under pressure. People like to confuse bad planning with juju

Emery signed two defenders in the summer (not to forget we signed another one this time last year). He can’t buy a whole new defence in one window. Therefore, I think you are being unrealistic.

Yes, I know, but also the pitches. I believe they had them remade and those particular injury struggles stopped. Müller-Wohlfahrt is a joke though.

Confirmed ACL tear for Bellerin. Won't be bacl before next season at earliest. Shit is fucked.

Who is the biggest loss this season - Bellerin, Welbeck, Holding?

Welbeck shouldn't be an option. Holding has been the best of them, but Sokratis and Kos are probably better alternatives than AMN/Lichtsteiner.

Probably Bellerin now that we have a few more CBs available. Our horrible run of form started when Holding and Bellerin got injured. Just seems that we can't play 4ATB the way Emery wants without Bellerin in the side.

I think Holding's run in the team has become a little overrated. He was doing very well, but I don't think he was playing better than, say, Sokratis did before his injury (or has done in the last two months). Bellerin is the best one of that lot by a wide margin from where I'm standing, and with our overreliance on fullbacks he's also leaving the biggest hole behind.

I'd argue Mustafi not being injured leaves the largest hole.
