Only at Arsenal Football Club could this happen and I'm not even surprised!

Tierney to miss Man City game due to self-isolation:

Sounds like the club is fighting the quarantine recommendation, as we should.

Have seen Martinelli in a few training pics (including in a practice match with the team). How comes his return date is still 'by the end of the year'?

Havent seem the pics but I don't think he's really in proper training. Probably more strength training and jogging and very light ball work. Speedy can probably fill us in more.

By the way, may be worth noting that the end of September is about 7 weeks or so away so not long left.

Because is a slow gradual process. You go from being 1% fit to 2% fit and so on. He could be able for 15 minutes in a practice match where nobody collides with him. But completely unready for high speed contact and twists and turns. The other players may not be allowed to contact him normally

Ah makes sense. Same with Chambers I guess, he's been in training pics for a few weeks too.

I used to put a different color bib on players and let them back in training early. So everyone knows not to contact them initially if they're not 100% then they play with the knowlege that they have to pass rather than take players on. Players get depressed when injured. If you watch the behind the scenes documentaries you'll spot its like a family member has died when they get injured. So if you can involve them for bits and bobs it keeps their mood high and keeps them in the enviroment with the other players so they still feel part of something.

Your insights are helpful. Thanks

Luiz out for a few weeks. We are in big big trouble Mustafi is going to start alot.

And Arteta confirms he left out Saliba from Europa League squad because he was counting on Mari but he has an injury setback so now we are down to barebones. Stupid move

Arsenal have received a huge fitness boost with Gabriel Martinelli making progress on his return.

Martinelli was initially ruled out until the end of the year with a serious knee injury.

But the forward has been back in light training.

“I’m feeling very well, I’m regaining confidence and I can feel my knee is better,” he previously told the Arsenal website.

“After an injury like this you are kind of scared to force the knee again but the past couple of weeks it has been fine and soon I can start training with the ball."

But they are not saying what it means time wise?

Still looks like he won't be back before the end of December to me anyways. We're in November now and is just in light training. Will be another 3 weeks to a month before he's ready to play for the U23s I reckon.

The good news in this is that his recovery seems to be on track and doesn't look like he has suffered any setbacks.

Probably mid December before he plays. He still has to get into full contact training. But at least he’s progressing. It’s encouraging. This season is likely a wash for the kid but any progress he can make towards pushing Lacazette out the door is good

Not really an injury, but Elneny has tested positive for COVID.

Why can't we have nice things?

We're an injury to Gabriel from me not watching us as we sink to the Championship.

You gotta be kidding me.

What in the actual fuck? He was the only hope i had of steadying the middle of the pitch. Nightmarish stuff

This is impossible to comprehend.

I was worried as soon as I read the vagueness of the injury. It sounds like it's one of those where he could probably play through it but we don't want to risk it until it's fully healed. Just inject him with whatever Atletico injected him with and get him back.

Bell reckons Partey may be a surprise return to the squad for the Spurs match if he passes a fitness test on Saturday. Arsenal have only said that he's continuing rehab ahead of a return to full training, which I thought sounded more upbeat.

Hope we're not risking him if thats true.

Indeed, we’re going to get trounced anyhow so I’d rather we saved him till he was fully fit and ready to go again.

Arteta confirms he’ll be back in training tomorrow. Good news whether he plays Sunday or not, thought he was out long term.

Nice. Players are slowly coming back. One of the best things about the match yesterday for me was seeing Mari sudddenly start and Chambers coming on. I hadn't seen the line-up or the bench and didn't even know that any of them were close to being fit.

Pshh.

This kind of mismanagement is annoying, possibly even worse than tactical or technical naivete.

This guy is basically your key to the season going successfully.

And you choose sacrifice him for the one game in the next four you were almost certain to lose.

Now he’ll be coming back just in time to get injured again against Man City/ Chelsea.

Top marks.

Rumours that Thomas Parety is out for 2 months. I hope it’s BS.

Any news on Martinelli?

Arteta said it was just a swelling on the shin yesterday. Painful, but nothing broken etc, so he shouldn't be out in the long long:

Our Brazilian forward was hurt following a collision with Zach Steffen and forced to leave the pitch through injury just two minutes into the second half.

And Mikel Arteta was able to provide an update on Martinelli in his post-match press conference.

"It was just a really bad kick on his shin and it was swelling up and he could not continue," our manager said.

"[At half-time] he was pushing, he was saying he was completely fine, that he wanted to carry on. He had a scar that wasn't open and he wanted to try, so we gave him the opportunity to try and when he was on the pitch he was uncomfortable so it was an easy decision to take him off.

Probably got a hematoma judging from the pics, but maybe they rolled it out in the dressing room.

Hes fine. Will be in the squad v Chelsea.

Phew. Thank god.

About the only player we have that's capable of creating something positive at the moment. Bar Saka.

Hopefully, we see him in Mid January. Can you imagine most of Partey, Tierney, Gabriel, Leno, Martinelli and Saka together on a field?

I'd hope so, we fielded most of them against Chelsea. 😉
