There are reports -- first pointed out by Savz in the old injury thread -- that Mertesacker has a serious knee injury and may be out for 5 months (11 months in Arsenal "years").

and in other news Gabriel has tonsillitis, and isn't traveling with the squad.
Buckle down for Chambers starting as a CB
Couldn't make it up could you? What is it we're doing in pre-season that seems to result in someone getting injured for the season every single summer?
Uh oh.
Go fetch us a Manolas or Koulibaly Wengs
Holding-Chambers axis
Really can't say if this is good or bad
So as things stand we'll start the season with a backline of: Bellerin-Chambers-Holding-Monreal
And a front 3 of: Ox-Walcott-Iwobi

Brilliant. Mad and hilarious.
I can't wait :opti:
Actually maybe Monreal at CB with Gibbs starting rather than starting both Chambers and Holding in the middle.
Yeah, definitely Monreal at CB. He's arguably our second best centreback right now anyway so it makes sense to move him centrally. I assume that Chambers will slot in next to him, at least for the moment.
Will Liverpool have their Euro players back for the opening game?

We should sign one or both regardless...

They only have 2 players involved late in euros. One is sold to Stoke City, the other is Can. Hardly detrimental.
By the way, something is up with Gabriel as well. Not included in any pre-season squad or match so far, either injured or preparing to get sold.
Ill with tonsillitis.
I remember when we brought in that Forsyth dude and everyone seemed to think our injury troubles were over. Turns out ain't nothing changed.

He cant prevent impact injuries.
This reminds me of a few seasons ago where we lost at home to Liverpool early on in the season, and we had Frimpong starting, and he possibly got sent off. Was also Nasri's final game for us.
Wenger just never learns.
