He's too underrated amongst Arsenal fans. I liked him since he did Tottenham in 2006 to win us a UCL spot.

Don't even have an issue with him leaving. But I will never forgive him for the shit he tried to pull midway through a title race. So glad his career fizzled out the way it did.

He is one of those players that has been badly advised by his agent. Career really died after he left us.

I'll never quite understand it myself. If you're happy and having the time of your life why jeopardise it? I've seen it in real life too, guys with a great job, good pay and good life, leave for more money and ending up miserable and full of regret.

Footballers have very short term outlooks mostly, probably because agents, etc are in their ear. I don't understand why more players aren't willing to stay at clubs longer and solidify themselves as legends.

You always hear "you don't remember fourth places, you remember trophies", but if it's about being remembered, staying at a club is a way better bet than moving around looking for trophies. Van Persie finally won a trophy, but he won't be a legend for neither us nor United. Even Fabregas who's won a few titles would've ended up on the Emirates wall if he had stayed.

Like all Gooners, i've never forgiven him for destroying a season that, to this day, i think we should've won.
As a matter of fact it gets worse with time but i'm happy he continually publicises the fact that he fucked himself up as well.
Of course his betrayal is on a higher scale but i think many other players who abandoned us like Fabregas and Adebayor feel the same way.

That's petty much it. Don't know what kind of stupidness was going through his mind to go to Italy in the middle of a title chase and sitting down to have ice cream with Inter Milan. And to top it all off he came back into the team not giving the slightest shit. I am glad he regrets his actions but fuck him, he deserves everything that has happened to his career since then.

Neither would I but regardless, it's irresponsible to bring politics like that into football, exception being of course if there is a local connection. But publicly displaying solidarity with certain people is also displaying to others that 'their' dead don't count as much.

Which ones would be the dead saudi arabians in this context? The bloke they sentenced to death the other month for uploading an atheist video clip on youtube? The Nepali migrant workers who keep dying in labour camps?

There were 2 Australian ladies killed in the attack, it's perfectly reasonable to observe a minutes silence for them in a game involving the Australian national team without having it interpreted as constructing some kind of hierarchy as to whose dead count more.

I wasn't talking about Saudi Arabia when I said 'others', you won't find any bigger critic of that country than me.

The general idea of mourning arbitrarily chosen events and deaths is what irks me, and thinking it's an issue when a bunch of semi-literate idiots do or don't stand in a fucking line on the midfield displaying their feigned dismay even more.

Gotcha.

I don't think it's wrong for players to show respect though, especially when you're representing a country. If you can't do it properly you deserve to be shamed for your conduct. I have a few ideas why the Saudis behave like this, and I have to say I think it's a much bigger problem than Australia asking for a silent minute after a couple of their citizens got blown up at a concert.
