Didn't see the game but I guess the gist of it is-

We lost Nas for "two weeks".
We lost Squill for a few games.
Denilson is still shit.
A late Cesc penalty again spared our blushes as we somehow arsed through again.
But at least Al's back! :glee:

Capi, sometimes it's worth a drive. I drove 2 hours into the countryside the other week to enjoy the most delightful cioppino.
I will say this much - traditional American garb - the greasy stuff from the midwest and the south makes me sick as well. The problem with it is that it's usually tasteless, fatty, filling and in family-sized portions. By the time you're halfway through, you feel like forcing it all back out again

Two hours would get me to Bristol if there was no traffic, Heathrow on a bad day; there be nowt worthwhile in them deep, dark places.

There's a Gordon Ramsey place about five minutes from my house but I'm not a fan. Five minutes in the other direction along the thames is the four seasons which I quite like. They used to have Ubon by Nobu in the same complex but I always thought it was pretty crap despite the hype. The Roka they just opened around five minutes further up in the wharf is excellent and then maybe 100 yards further there is Jamie Olivers new place. They have excellent sushi at Moshi Moshi in the waitrose but the selection is limited. Their steak and oyster bar isn't too bad either.

You can always get a good curry around here and tayyabs in whitechapel is pretty famous for its tandoori. The Hawksmoor on Commercial street does probably the best steaks that I have had in london.

My favourite restaurant is Cicada near st.john's square further into the city though; have probably spent thousands there over the years.

So yeah anyway, rubbish performance, good result.

I think this match proved that we don't really have a second XI that's fit to mix it.

Shame about Nasri's injury but we can't afford to rely on one player anyway - I'm just glad that (touch wood) Fabregas and van Persie are currently fit and in form. As for Vermaelen I'm not sure he would significantly improve on the Koscielny / Djourou axis.

Bendtner played a good match but he just doesn't really have natural touch. He does everything else pretty much perfectly - lots of great off the ball moves.

Squillaci was remarkably shit. I don't want him anywhere near the side for important matches - he's very slow and static.

Well thats what it boils down to, as long as those two remain fit we always have a chance in one off games.

We need him, sure - I'm happy for him to play rotation when needed if it means Koscielny and Djourou stay fit for the league. Unfortunately that probably means he plays in the domestic cups.

It's certainly a lot of weeks that Vermaelen has had out now, since he signed. Must be over a quarter of his Arsenal career on the sidelines.

That's pretty typical for an Aussie eggs benedict - although the sautéed mushrooms are a slightly rarefied nice to have, and the lemon flavoured hollandaise is a new one for me.

We are heading down the Californian route here in Perth, the really noticeable thing in the last couple of years is the number of "up scale" burger joints opening. All the cafés are struggling to make every menu item pseudo-gourmet so they can justify charging an arm and a leg: whether the gimmick be avocado, prosciutto or blue cheese sauce a lot of it is pretty third rate.

What makes a "gourmet" café meal for me is a lot more about the produce and the construction than about the discrete ingredients list.

My abiding memory of US food from a couple of years back is the size of the portions (grandiose) and the proliferation of side plates of chips. A few times I got chips even when they weren't mentioned on the menu. Food in California was relatively cheap though, compared to Australia.

Everyone always comes to the conclusion that our squad suddenly isn't good enough after a complete 2nd XI doesn't perform - rubbish imo.

Clearly there was no balance in the team, which had a far larger effect than anything else on the game. In games like this Wenger always puts out teams based on who needs games rather than a structured team and we're never fluid as a result.

We have a great squad - most teams would love to have players like Chamakh, Bendtner, Arshavin, Eboue, Diaby, Rosicky, Gibbs etc to call upon.

Bit like United fans going mad over their game vs Southamptoon really, they played even worse than us and had 11 men, doesn't mean the likes of Hernandez, Anderson, Fabio, Evans etc aren't great squad options individually.

Muffins and cakes for breakfast, that's what I dont get about US food culture. And the size of the portions. Nobody needs to eat that much.

Forgot to mention before but that was the worst I've seen Gibbs play.

I agree, Qs. He was so bad I barely recognised him as a player. Kieran looks like he's terrified of picking up another injury, and his confidence is absolutely shot. He needs a long run without injuries. Although it must be said that the last 20 minutes he really played alot better, so hopefully that's a good sign.

His individual performance was a shocker but it's hard for a left back playing in those conditions. The uncertainty in the line and the midfield has undone Clichy in the same way many times.

He was constantly caught too far up field and his positioning was appalling. The fact that he and Clichy share the same flaws does make me wonder about the coaching. Similar flaws to Cashleys early years too.

It's the sort of split-second decision-making that only comes with experience, Qs. Not an issue with our coaching at all for me.

I rate Kieran extremely highly, and I genuinely think the general opinion that he "can't defend" is way wide of the mark. He just needs games and experience, and time playing with familiar players, in a familiar system.

That said, he's well below what he's capable of right now. He had two or three chances yesterday to get in behind with the ball, or to make the sort of overlapping runs he loves to make, and he hesitated every single time. He's probably just subconsciously desperate to get through games unhurt, and knows he must stay free of injury to progress.

Actually I thought Gibbs' positioning wasn't too far off. It was his one-on-one performance on the day that was poor, surprisingly so really.

But worse still was that porous midfield. Reminded me so much of us last season. Denilson is a big factor in that, he really stank the place up.

60 away credits needed for Orient away. I have never seen that number of credits needed. Still hopeful of getting a ticket.
