That's the thing blowing my mind from a distance, can't believe this whole farce has been ongoing for months. When we have a leadership spill down here, it's usually over in half a day. Even if the members needed to be balloted I can't imagine it'd take more than a fortnight.
Truss seems like a moron—at least there are an astounding number of videos of embarrassing gaffes she's made that circulate—and this "energy mortgage" plan is also depressing. The press meanwhile is already enjoying tossing round the idea of a Johnson comeback.
One thing our democracies are getting better and better at is building institutions—universities, parties, Parliaments, offices—that filter society for the people who seem like the absolute worst possible leaders and then somehow installing them. Can't believe I've just endured years of Scott Morrison as Prime Minister.
