Good reminder why I'll never go into politics, shame on anyone who'd stand with that criminal Modi - this is long past identity politics this is about being a decent human being. I guess the Pakistani Bangladeshi or Muslim Indian vote isn't enough to offset this potential loss, given that most UK Indians seem to be Hindi and most Pakistanis vote Labour anyway?

These are the rare occasions where I'm glad that societal integration of migrants here in Germany is at least a generation or two behind the UK. If the children of someone who moved from the 3rd world to Europe, worse still someone whose home has been ravaged by his new hosts as badly as India was by the UK, voted conservative they'd be hounded out of town. Not saying it doesn't happen we have the odd black or Arab CDU lunatic too I'd argue its not nearly as commonplace as it's in England.

I don't think that tells the full story here - based on my anecdotal experience second or third generations are less concerned or even as aware of what's happening in Kashmir and would more likely vote according to local issues. This is doubly true for the generation of British Indian migrants that moved to the UK via Africa.

The thing is Indians are the single largest demographic moving into the UK over the past 10 years and often one of the most successful. I wouldn't be surprised that if every 5 years the number of indians moving equalled the size of a small town like Southampton. And it's for first generation migrants that Kashmir is extremely evocative imo.

Edit: I suspect there are also a fair few British Indians who have moved back to India and normally wouldn't vote but may well be minded to do so because of this

Obviously there are more factors at play than just Kashmir, I was just responding somewhat reductively to the link you've posted.

My overall point anyway was if arriving at the host society means seeing more Uncle Toms and my people moving further to the right then may that day never come.

It would suck to be Jewish in the UK right now. Antisemitism is real, Labour antisemitism is real, Tory antisemitism is real. There's a ton of it around at the moment.

The idea that you fix it by trying to use it as a stick to beat Labour with is really poisonous. The motives for the media campaign are ulterior, and instrumentalising antisemitism as an issue for cynical party-political reasons is making things worse. It leads to left wing idiots believing in Jewish conspiracy theories and right wing idiots going full bore cheerleading for Netanyahu and conflating Zionism with Jewish identity.

Yeah, that's exactly what we've seen happen. There's not really much you can do about the media campaign, but Labour cocked up by not dealing with it in a way that satisfy the people who matter (i.e. Jewish labour groups, MPs, activists etc).

Call me a left wing idiot but - with the clear distinction that its not Jewish but Israeli - there's plenty of official documentation of external meddling to promote the idea how Labour has become an echo chamber of people reading the protocols of the elders of zion.

As one of the few other UK residents active in this thread, how do you feel about your vote goon? I'm pretty underwhelmed. I'll probably vote Labour but then again I'm quite literally in their age, geographic and social demographic so I'm not really indicative of anything. I would have considered Lib Dems if they showed even a degree of integrity but from where I'm standing they're still more likely to prop up Tory policies (Brexit aside) than anyone else.
