More resignations from Corbyn's shadow cabinet.

This is a time of extraordinary volatility, I've never seen anything like it. Both of the UK's major political parties are simultaneously in utter chaos, chaos even deeper than it looked a couple of days ago.

Not necessarily a bad thing that the Blair MPs resign. Hopefully, the Labour electorate will remember this at the next election and vote for MPs with views closer to Corbyn's. Corbyn needs to stay of course...

Deep divide on both the left and right side of the traditional economic axis. On the right you have free trade libertarians vs nationalists who oppose immigration, and on the left you have the postmodern academic left vs the proles. Don't see how either side can carry on like this. I expect a split on both sides in both the UK and US.

Not really how it works though, there's only 1 labour MP per constituency and the centrist ones are not exactly going anywhere.

Sorry Kel, that was an incredibly cheap shot. I think your post is roughly correct about the left and right both being ideologically divided—though the half-and-half cohorts of left and right are an artefact of majoritarian democracy and not the underlying economic conditions.

The thing about the Nationalists vs the Libertarians is that most libertarians seem to hate immigrants every bit as much as the nationalists. There are very few real libertarians who actually realise that open borders is a positive for a libertarian society.

My categorization was of course crude and without nuance, but I think you basically have four quadrants now, primarily separated by economic and social axes. Even more so than the past.

I think libertarian is probably the wrong way to describe it then, more like the ultra-nationalists and the traditional conservatives. I say traditional conservatives rather than libertarian because while they are for small government etc they are not usually socially progressive the way libertarians would be. I think true libertarianism is a tiny minority on the right. They just seem to be very loud online.

"True" libertarians are such a small political grouping because their ideas are so silly.

They're fixated on state power, living under the delusion that nothing bad would replace state violence, repression and regulation if the state were dissolved.
