Keir Starmer is a familiar type. If a Labour government is formed under his leadership, there will be some bold "first hundred days" style nation-rebuilding announcements ready. There will be a reversal of the partisan lines on some favourite, but marginal questions. Then nothing more but the same shit served up cold.

Labour will be infinitely better than the Tories without even trying. That’s not a comment on Starmer pandering to the right or Labours new centrist focus, it’s a comment on just how bad the conservatives have been.

Forget about the hot topics that gets media coverage, things that matter like homelessness, poverty, child poverty, the NHS and education etc. have been let to rot and get progressively worse vs progressively better under the last Labour government.

To me we're all correct. Yes, Labour has always been preferable to the Tories at any given time. But all sides of politics are reliably enshittifying as time passes. I hope I'm wrong about Starmer, and if Labour is elected there really is a revival of public health and education …

I’ve heard some horror stories but never personally had an issue getting something sorted within 24-48 hours. A&E is also a lottery but generally been fine. The worst I’ve seen are the diagnostics where something like a scan on a ligament is deemed to be ‘non threatening’ so you could be waiting months before a booking.

I think it's a postcode lottery. Our GP in Beckenham is generally excellent, Jo's dad lives 2 miles down the road and his GP is decidedly not excellent.

The idea that I could book an appointment with my primary care physician within 24-48 hours is completely foreign to me. Last time I booked it was almost 6 weeks out. It's almost always a week or two at minimum. This is paying a steep monthly premium in the US with a $2500 deductible.

Understandably a general lack of enthusiasm for politics around the UK at the moment but for me personally I have to say it’s a fucking relief to finally be able to rid ourselves of the Tories (barring a Teresa May styled disaster campaign from Starmer).

Needs to be over and done with, we've had a lame duck leader and government for too long now. I don't actually hold much hope for Labour. Blair coming in was a bit like Obama, the whole country was with him and full of hope and optimism. Starmer is in power because how bad the Tories are, I've seen very little from him to suggest that he'll be much better.

Since Blair the Tories have been one of the most cruel, incompetent governments I've ever seen. Have they done anything good? Their economic and diplomatic (and constitutional!) moves have been diametrically opposed to the collective interest. They are heartless bastards.

It's astonishing really - even Home County Tories (the equivalent of country club republicans) are pretty fed up with the past 5 years. And the hard right loons have moved onto to Reform too. The Tories increasingly only appeal to those receiving a triple lock pension and don't leave the house to realise how much worse things are.

There's a lot of analysis on how this is a result of calculated decisions at the top but really it's a product of incompetence to me. They can't manage their party much less a country and the person that really should be blamed for this is David Cameron for hollowing out everything he could get his hands on and creating the space for everything that followed.
