Dare I say it, but England has missed Welbeck a whole heap this tournament. Not the best player, but he always brings energy, passion and work rate. Also incomprehensible to me that Vardy, who consistently brings the same attributes, was only used as an impact sub too. I can understand, sort of, why Hedgehog went with Kane in the first game, but after that debacle of Kane's, Roy should have gone with Vardy IMO.
To me, England lost this game mainly because they were out hustled for about 85 minutes. Poor concentration too often when controlling the ball, not even close to enough off the ball movement and sprints, too often settling for the easy pass which Iceland happily conceded, losing too many 50-50 situations. I have said it on plenty of occasions regarding Arsenal, because the same thing happens with us; the first thing you have to do in a game of football at the top level, is matching your opponent for work rate and commitment. When you do that, then the technical superiority will more often than not take care of the rest.
