I think it's a tall ask too. People hope for Costa to either implode or injure himself and take some of the air out of Chelsea, but Conte is the bloke who once won Serie A with two strikers who scored a combined total of like 16 goals a few years back. He could probably stick a centreback up front and still get his results.

Then again, who knows. Azpilicueta is the only one of their back 6 who's anywhere near top class and they're extremely dependent on their central midfield. They might get shown up defensively if we hang in there long enough.

The indicators are that Chelsea will win the league, but there's enough room for us to beat the odds for me to entertain hopeful thoughts when reviewing the remaining fixtures

I'm not overly pessimistic this season. We're actually showing a lot more positive signs than I expected. I do think we need to start winning games against the likes of Burnley and Bournemouth before we can talk about possibly overtaking a team that is 8 points ahead and showing no signs of slowing down though.

I think goal difference is a driving indicator of how good a team actually is. Historically it corresponds to final table position almost as well as points, and we're at least in the ballpark this season. Beat Burnley by 3-4 goals today and we'll start to put some distance between ourselves and the likes of Spurs and Liverpool. Then let's take it from there.

on the bright side, as bad as we have looked this season... Chelsea themselves have not appeared spectacular in most games i've seen. they've just been solid in the back - something that continues to evade us for whatever reason. that's the difference. if we get better defending, we are just as good as Chelsea.

one thing i will say though, it's been a while since we've had a good English team. maybe that City title-winning team, but more likely the Ancelotti team is the last proper team we've seen in England.

Teams with a winning streak of 12 games tend to win the league. They would have to go into reverse for us to have a chance of nicking it by a point and that would require us to charge through the minnows home and away while getting results at the big teams. We are due another oh shit moment over the next 4 weeks so I imagine we will be out by then.

If Liverpool beat them a draw wouldn't be the worst result in the world. 5 points isn't too bad, it's still small enough that theyll feel some pressure.
