I don't even think they're pressing that hard, definitely not on the level of Klopp's best Dortmund team. Few times I've seen them they seemed to play a more possession based style but they don't really have the players for it

Agree they'll suffer after Christmas when Mané will go to the AFCON. Also their defence is dogshit, their LB backup is Milner ffs

If Liverpool negotiate the Christmas period and they are still in touch I won't write them off. Playing fewer games every week can be a massive advantage in the second half of the season.

Our fixture list post Feb is typically tricky and I just don't trust Wenger to magically discover the attention to detail needed to negotiate them. I'm curious to see how out striker situation plays out because I suspect Giroud is going to eventually be reinstated as number 1 and all the other options would have to make do on the wings.

I doubt Giroud will be our first number 9 again.

Wenger looked in the summer for a mobile striker (Vardy), hired one (Perez), and have persisted with Sanchez as a 9. I think Giroud is done as a starter in the long term too. The effect of playing Alexis up front is too obvious. Olly will still have plenty to contribute with but we have spent half a year slowly changing our style away from both a target man and midfield possession. We're not going to swap back now. If Alexis were to break his leg or something (touch wood) I think we would go with Lucas as the new main striker.

Can't see Wenger benching Giroud and playing Sanchez up top for an extensive amount of time from now on. Time will tell but I feel playing Sanchez as the main striker was always a short term solution.

I agree and it follows the new trend.
The days of the lamp post striker are over in this era of high pressing.
Even the best striker in the premiership, Aguero, is not immune to this.
He will have his uses as the main workhorse on heavy winter pitches but he has to get used to being Alexis' relief most of the time and a plan B.
It's not just the strikers that have had to evolve.
Goalkeepers, centrebacks and midfielders roles have all adapted to live with this phenomenon.

Danny will be a handy rotation option out wide once he's back, probably done at striker though.

Think Welbeck gets a raw deal here. He's powerful, work hoards and registers fairly frequently

He has been injured so long, i worry for his future.
His main attributes are pace and strength but it could take a couple of seasons, unaffected by setbacks, for him to simply get to square one.

Welbeck would completely change the way we play though. Just because he's mobile doesn't mean he will do what Sanchez does. Sanchez drops deep, plays people in, beats his man, etc Welbeck just runs out to the flanks if you ask to play in this system.
