Was it really that good? After the first half of that season the careers of the key individuals involved took a nose dive into irrelevance and there wasn't much to shout about prior to those few good months either. Suggests to me that rather than being a quality side they just clicked really well for a while and had a bit of a purple patch.

Maybe, maybe not. We didn't have much depth that season but our first team was actually pretty good. That midfield was quality though. Injuries and poorly thought out transfer moves ruined the career of each player in that midfield. Similar story with Eduardo and van Judas. Adebayor's is a special case as he actually had quite a bit of natural talent but his failure was completely down to the area between his two ears. He grew into a self entitled brat after that season. The only player in that first team that I would say was shit was probably Almunia.

I'm not saying they were shit, I'm just saying that aside from Fabregas they not all that, at least not compared to the United lot.

He won WPOTY a couple more times and scored more than 42 goals on like six occasions. Obviously he was a great player already but not in his prime

I guess you could say that all those players were in their prime.

Maybe on paper at the start of the campaign but as a collective that season, we were the team to beat and rightly so having led the table for almost the whole season. If we kept our heads that season we'd have won the title and if we'd kept that team together for the next few years then who knows what we could have achieved?

But in reality we didn't so it doesn't matter. Looking back it might be easy to say that United were the better team and should have won, but at the time we all believed it was our year and that our team was good enough to hold on for the win. Maybe not name for name but collectively our team was more than good enough to win that year ahead of United.

They had no balls that team. They fell away largely because they were bottlers. Fabregas was the key man, the only real top class quality in there and he is one of the biggest bottlers going. Also the defence was mediocre and a couple of players had purple patches that were real anomalies for their careers. I think the back to back FA cup team is better.

I've absolved the 07-08 squad of not winning the league because I think we were robbed of it. The turning point to me wasn't Brum (where Clichy was given a phantom peno), but the 2-1 defeat to Chelsky involving a blatantly offside Drogba goal. Then I vaguely remember being robbed of a peno at OT. Our injury 'luck' was awful as usual too.

But I do blame on Wenger for the breakdown of that team. The new 4 musketeers of Cesc-Flam-Hleb-Rozza should have been kept together by all means. Dolphinhead Diarra should have been forced to stay too and allowed to replace Flams.

The 07/08 team were anything but bottlers. It may have lacked quality in a few areas but it is the most cohesive team Wenger has produced post Highbury. Bottlers don't come back from 2-0 down on a rain soaked pitch away to Bolton in March to win 3-2 against all odds. The team overcame many adversities from lack of depth, to injuries and some downright bad officiating to record our highest points total in the Emirates era. It is no coincidence that we haven't managed to hit 80+ points since and the PL was brutal back then. I think we finished 4points off the top in the end. Don't forget also that this was the same season United and Chelsea competed in the CL final.

Apparently Clichy said he heard a whistle and stopped but it was a real brian fart moment. He did something similar when we played Man City a few games before. Tells you all about his career that he is now playing second fiddle to Kolarov.

Don't forget our UCL exploits too. That team beat the reigning champion Milan comprehensively, dominating both legs. They would have gone to the final had they not get robbed by Liverpool, have no doubts about it. They just seem to keep going and going. On paper now, you can say that team don't look as good as their competitors, but during the season I remember RedCafe had threads about Hleb vs Ronaldo, Cesc vs Anderson (I know) and our defensive back 4 was great.

He's playing in a team that has 3 centre halfs TBF. He's never going to fill that role.
