Even in 2007, when you look at the respective squads we had no right to even compete with that United side. VDS, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez all in their prime. It's no surprise we 'threw it away' when you take a really close look at the players we were relying on to pull us through, particularly after the injuries. United got 87 points, it was always asking a lot of that squad to beat that.
Thing is we had a quality side that season as well. Injuries took their toll on us. We also had a lot problems off the pitch with Gallas's strop and issues with Toure, Hleb's ice cream trip, Adebayor' searching for Beyoncé, and Flamini deciding to jump ship.
The team never recovered. Wenger could also have maybe done more to stop that run of draws we had after the Birmingham game. In the end even if all results stayed the same and we had just held on to beat United in the second game, we would have won the title by a point. Of course in reality we didn't and that meant we finished 3rd instead.
