There will never be another Maradona, Messi effectively bottling it last night proved this.

Imagine if Brazil and Argentina tried to hire actual decent managers for once. Simeone should take the job before Messi retires.

Simeone would win them the World Cup.

Bottling? What do you mean bottling? A man scores 50-60 goals per season and misses one penalty and he becomes a bottler. FOH. I'm not a Messi fan, but I won't have people besmirching his good name.

He's partly throwing a strop because he lost and partly because he wants the Argentinian fans to cut him some slack and show him more love. Perhaps even beg him to change his mind about retiring.

The people in Argentina and Brazil have a very special relationship towards their football national teams, I'm not even surprised Messi wants to retire. Don't think it's about him wanting them to cut him some slack (or even begging him) but more that he feels he let the nation down, a nation that never warmed to him despite him being the best ever to play the sport.

I remember around 2012-13 when he broke virtually every footballing record around and won his third consecutive Ballon d'Or he finished 3rd (!) when Argentina voted for its best sportsman, behind Sergio Martinez (I'm a fan of his but he wasn't even the undisputed best middleweight then) and some taekwondo bloke I don't even know the name of.

Pretty sure Messi would give up several of his league titles for just one title with Argentina. To lose three finals in consecutive years has to be heartbreaking for anyone

It's honestly unfair to blame Messi for all the Argentina's final losses though IMO. Without him they wouldn't even get there in the first place.

higuain is 10x more to blame than messi. fuck that guy
