Feels like Arteta is only fishing in the PL-proven pond these days. Apart from Gabriel and Partey, can't think of any of his signings from outside the league vs Ramsdale, White, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Jesus, Trossard - all from the league. I understand that reduces settling time and all that, but surely, at some point, a club with our (relatively limited) resources needs to start working on a proper scouting network that allows us to bring in players from other leagues at a relatively lower cost without the English tax? All the links this season as well are PL players - Rice, Caicedo, Lavia, Havertz. Each of these has a cheaper and better non-PL alternative (maybe other than Rice). I understand the argument about lower risk and quicker settling time, but is it really worth the cost, especially if it means leaving us short in one or the other position every transfer window?
