I'm dreaming of something like Joao Felix and Jonathan David, but that's about as unrealistic as you can get. Imagine the options though!

I'm a huge fan, but I don't see him working well with Arteta's system.

We've seen nothing to suggest that Arteta will enable a free flowing offense that has players combining in a technical manner. It's all built on us using width, establishing triangles with WF/CM/FB, and then crossing.

Joao Felix under Wenger would have been brilliant, and I think he would play some great stuff alongside Ode, Saka, and ESR.

Would be a fun signing, even if inefficient investing. Felix hasn’t developed in the way I envisaged though, not to suggest its less than.

I'd disagree.

Yes he'd be an upgrade on Laca outside of the box, but he's not any better than Laca when it comes to finishing chances. Arteta likes Laca dropping deep to help with relieving pressure, but from there our play all heads out wide and in turn requires a CF to become the finisher.

Felix could do the part of coming deep but he's going to draw the build up play more central, and unless Arteta adjusts to that approach than we'll see a disconnect between what Felix does well and where Arteta wants the ball to go. Felix blends the role of a 10 and (second) striker, and I don't think Arteta would accept that fluidity.

Don't think we even need to be that picky. Mobile for ninety minutes, a little strength and intelligence about positioning, and a proper goal threat—that's enough to enable the whole team.

Maybe 90-100 which is around £75m -£80m

A real gamble, but one you take. Felix with Odegaard, Saka et al would be great to watch. I still think you need another striker plus winger if Pepe leaves, as well as Lacazette, and Nektiah.

Why on earth did Atletico pay so much for him in the first place? I know he was highly rated but that feels like they just paid the first figure that popped into Benfica's head.

They can't possibly expect to get that back, especially considering he's not even a regular starter for them. I think they'd be lucky to get back €80m and that's only because of how much they paid in the first place, otherwise no one would be talking about more than €60-70m.

Obviously because it was his release clause. No wonder Willie asks how long you've been following football 😆

That's like saying Newcastle payed £30m for Wood because "that's his release clause, so it's ok". You are allowed to negotiate lower.

Felix was the hottest prospect in Europe at the time of the deal, fee was maybe a bit on the high side but this being before Covid no way would Benfica have considered selling for under 100m. He was bought after his debut professional season, most likely Benfica didn't agree to the sale at all.

And the selling club can refuse to negotiate lower. As when we bought Partey.
