Isn't that something basically only Bayern, Barcelona, United and Madrid were capable of doing then, and to an extent still only those clubs? Its not a 1-2-1 correlation but I feel Juve, Barcelona and Madrid are in financial turmoil in some part to a reckless run of finger dipping of in-vogue stars.
He did go after Benzema. Some could say pursuits for Higuain, Alonso, Suarez also reflect what you are describing.
