Understand that but I don't think we get both Buendia and Bissouma for a combined 60m, and I'm not certain the remainder of any kitty gives us a balanced match day squad 'fit for purpose'.

That said don't mind me I'm just very down on just about everything to do with the team and club atm = as I said elsewhere I'm venting atm and waiting for the club to give me a reason to walk away - even if they do nothing.

I think these donkeys will spend. There is going to be a big protest today before the game, and I imagine before the Brighton game. In fact, all 4 of our remaining games are in London, so we could protest at all of them. The Kroenkes will remain steadfast that they’re staying and appease the fans by spending big.

But being bad and absent owners, they’ll fail to see that Mikel needs to go learn at Malaga or Celtic for a season or 2.

IMO spending big without a change of manager (at the very least) is akin to a gambler chasing after bad money(???), as I don't trust any of our current structure from manager - TD - CEO - BoD - KSE to get it right.

EDIT - I still don't trust them to provide additional funding without it eventually falling upon the club to carry the cost either by loan payments or other means.

I've changed my mind on Bissouma, I think he'd give us some much needed energy in midfield.

for players who grew up with a soft spot for arsenal, this is a chance for them to come and save the club and they don't have to sacrifice wages.

So, why you spend is as much as a factor to success as how and how much you spend.

Spending to appease the fans? That has to be the worst reason for a club to want to spend money. I’d rather they kept their money because it will be pointless at the end of the day. They will make the wrong signings for the wrong reasons if that is their intention. There will be no continuity or vision or plan to their signings.

Bissouma is a must. He’d allow Partey to be more adventurous. He’d bring a mean streak and would solidify the midfield to provide a decent platform for the attack

The club is risk averse. We take a long time to hire and fire coaches. And we aren’t willing to invest in capabilities like scouting and analytics to unearth the next big thing. We are more comfortable going for the proven player. Of course, by then Lille or Leicester have already bought him and are going to charge us a £20m premium for their trouble. Our risk aversion comes with costs everywhere. More expensive players, coaches overstaying their welcome leading to lost seasons, players overstating leading to lost transfer value, and so forth. It’s a highly entrained culture.

This is why I say a coach can only do so much. Maybe get us to 5th or 4th. But becoming a competitor requires absolute change.

I think that’s unfair. We signed Torreira and Guendouzi in midfield and got nothing in return for it, Ceballos too if a loan counts. Xhaka was also a highly rated midfielder entering his prime top when we bought him. The only proven midfielder we’ve signed is Partey.

We also signed Tierney, Gabriel, Saliba and Martinelli. I don’t think we’re doing too poorly.

I like Bissouma but do worry that him and Partey are a bit too similar and that they would both be off every 2 years for ACON

Even just shielding the back 4 partey looks dead after 65 minutes. Not sure he has the legs for a more adventurous role. He has been fit a while and it doesn't seem to be improving.

He hasn't looked fit at all. Are you saying he's fit because he doesn't hobble around or what are you basing it on? Looks nothing like the player he was in Spain.

He just looks like he can't get around. When he first came back from injury he looked like he was super unfit because he'd been out. But he's back ages now and his fitness level just plateaued. It's looking like this is most likely what we're going to get.

Yes, we haven't neglected any area nor have we been conservative with our recruitment. Other than the players you mention, we signed Pepe for 72 Million. We can criticize the quality of our acquisitions and question why we have got it wrong so often recently but not the club's intention behind most of our signings.

Yep. Wenger days our transfer ambitions were torrid but post Wenger we have backed both Emery and Arteta loads.

Tierney, Saliba, Gabriel, Pepe, Partey, Torreira, Guendouzi, Martinelli etc etc. Most of them were wishlisted and the rest great potential gambles. We can't complain when they failed as long as we tried.

Of course there are also Willian and Cedric but those 2 were requested mainly by Edu/Arteta.

You know thats actually a strong list of signings. I think Emery and Arteta failing to get much out of these players is the biggest issue.
