Given the relationship between the clubs, shithousery from either side wouldn't surprise me. But I'm inclined to believe us because of the little detail about St Etienne being required to submit paperwork first, and the general tone of the St Ettiene statement (when do clubs ever release that kind of inflamatory statement when a deal falls through?). They have absolutely no class and we should have told William he's not going back here from the beginning.
I have no love for Saint Etienne but I'm 99% sure they're closer to the truth than we are. Saliba is something like a poster boy for them, he was sent back on loan once already so I can't see them fucking the transfer paperwork up same as I can't see them haggling over his wages. On the other hand we've seen how central Saliba is to our and Arteta's plans, of course they have every right to release that kind of statement given that they had him in their plans.
But we've seen first hand how little they value him when it came to the decision to loan him back for the final. It was 1 game, it should have been the easiest deal in history, Arteta himself said he was very keen on Saliba to participate in the final. And yet it didn't happen. And by the way, they released a statement full of vitriol back then too.
They had every right? Sure, but it should also tell you how little interest they had in potentially loaning him a couple of months down the line in Jan.
Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if Edu wanted to fuck them over given the relationship, but I'm certainly not going to believe that St Étienne are just a poor little club who simply wanted their poster boy back. Those guys are petty and wanted him back for the final more because they thought it would make them an easy million or two rather than wanting the player to participate.
