I’m on the other side. If we have no funds or other options, it’s at least us actively trying to do something about the Xhaka-Mustafi axis of doom. If it checks out positively we’d have improved the defense and midfield, and hopefully concede less goals. If it goes badly, we’d have made a minimal loss / financial investment.

I’d rather that sort of bad business than no business.

Coutinho is no has been though. He’s reaching peak years for a footballer and is already proven in the prem. He would be an upgrade on Ozil/Mhki so I’m all for it and he will play with a point to prove.

Why do you think Barca are so eager to get rid of him? Did you watch him last season? Have you seen their fans talk about him? Bloke was barely top four quality before he went there, and his experience in Spain has knocked him down a tier.

Me too. Luckily the rumours are regarding Coutinho and Umtiti. I'm not even a fan of Coutinho at all, but what he showed in Premier League definitely wasn't garbage, and I don't see any reason to think that he has regressed rather than that he doesn't fit in at Barca.

Has it been confirmed that he has permanently fucked his knee up? I thought that was just speculation, I'd take him on a loan with option to buy. Even if we'd have to pay a higher loan fee, that way see if he still has it if not send him back.

I wouldn’t touch this. Umtiti has barely played, and played in pain. He’s behind prospects now. And Coutinho is going to give us James problems as a tweener, insufficient work rate in centre, not explosive enough on outside.

One option might be to look at RB Leipzig defender. Mukiele is same age cohort as Upamecano and Konate. Started about as many games (12) as the former. Good build, tall, very aggressive and good tackler, excellent in the air. Further, he’s an extremely athletic guy who can give us much better coverage at right back than AMN if needed. I wonder if Leipzig would ever consider just focusing on 2 high quality prospects, a bit like Dortmund. Would be at minimum Saliba price, but an immediate starter

Don't think Coutinho would be a good signing, very inconsistent and we don't need more of those type of players especially when there are more important areas of the team to improve.

Coutinho in the team means Auba can forget about crosses as the balls are ending up either in the top corner or more often in the stands.
The man has regressed badly from the Liverpool version and is producing even less than an old fat Suarez.
