Someone on the way to the top is ideal they've got something to prove. They're on a mission. Someone on the way down is less likely to bust a gut. Similar to when QPR signed every big name they could and got relegated. Or when ManU signed di Maria after he was MOTM in the CL final. He just looked around at the team and thought fuck this.
Some like Sanchez still had a lot to prove after his barca spell. If Alaba signed for us. He'd be fading out in his career. Hes unlikely to have the drive that got him so far at Bayern. And hed completely blow the budget and take up tons of wages.
