Saw a vid on reddit for this guy and remembered he was once linked as one of Sven's first batch of identified transfers, but we went for Mavropanos instead. How did he do in the Bundyliga?

Redditors who were commenting on this ( seem to rate him very highly and said he did very well for Stuttgart. Plays CB mainly, can play some RB. He's on the final French 23 man squad for the WC as well.

Some Stuttgart fan said their technical director won't listen to any offer less than 40m euros FWIW. Can't blame them, his value might skyrocket if he does well at the WC.

He's being named as a RB in the squad, so he's competing with Sidibe for the starting spot. Could be possible.

Tuttomercatoweb claims that we have made an offer for Torreira - would be outstanding if true. He's exactly the kind of player we need at the base of MF. Torreira, Xhaka, Ramsey could be an outstanding MF 3. He will fit perfectly into the PL - strong, low CG, making it nearly impossible to knock him off the ball. He also often drops deep and plays between the 2 CBs (supposedly something Emery wants from his DMs when the FBs go forward). Almost like having our own Kante.

No midfield trio with Xhaka as one of the players will ever be outstanding.

Torreira is great, tailor made for the Premier League too. Don't think tuttomercato are reliable though unfortunately

Starting to get linked to the type of players we wouldn’t under Wenger. It’s exciting. Hopefully we’ll soon see a team capable of retaining the ball under pressure and who are disciplined defensively

Torreira looks very good though id worry about having a player of his size purely cos we lack physical players elsewhere to compensate

We should be fair about what we attribute to Wenger and what we attribute to the absence of an administrative infrastructure. We never had equivalents for Raul and Sven. All we had was a part timer who mainly played Huss’ role. Otherwise, Gazidis, Wenger, and others were filling in these roles in addition to their other duties. The whole catalyst for change movement will leave us much stronger on paper

He has a release clause of 25m euros, might as well pay it if we really want him.

Everton is also interested in Torreira, not to mention a host of Serie A teams (Juve, Inter, Napoli, etc.).
