Don't think we'd go back with another bid unless the club was prepared to sell and the player was interested to join - AW has said he does not pursue players unless the club is willing to sell.

To think Dembele was such an obvious talent from France and went for just 12m last summer, whilst Wenger spent 17m on Lucas who he now wants to dump.

IIRC AW wanted to sign Dembele but was rejected by the player because he wanted playing time as his primary requirement.
Not sure if there was any actual formal offer made re fee or wages.
IIRC it was much the same story re Keita & Coman as well, & may have been a reason as to why we did not try to sign Moussa when he left Fulham for Celtic or Tielemans from Anderlecht. It's a common issue with young talent who have played most of a season in a lower league or smaller club.

That talent ahead of dembele was iwobi, Walcott and the Ox. Wenger should have been at least one if not two of the latter to get dembele. Dembele wasn't a 100% started for Dortmund either last season.

Agreed - however it's not the first time that AW has prioritised the bird in hand.
Wasn't there a similar decision made re Kante & Mahrez, and another story regarding Mbappe & Lemar as teens?

Setting ourselves up for a tricky summer next year as we'll be leaving ourselves far too much to do. Chances are we'll need to replace Alexis and/or Ozil. Then others might leave like the Ox plus we'll need to get replacements in for ageing players like Santi, Per, , Nacho, Kos and Cech

Spot on. With players not signing contracts we needed to be pro-active but its the opposite. Wengers 2 year contract looks like another 2 years of the same old, same old. Absolutely no change has come from our disastrous season last time round. Here we are again with Wenger, no change in structure and just 2 signings.

I think because we look good enough for fourth this season, management is content. Next summer will be a battle. To replace Ozil, Sanchez and to a lesser extent Chamberlain will be a mammoth task. Under normal circumstances we'd recoup around £180m for those three players (Sanchez £90m, Ozil £50m and Chamberlain £40m). I'm guessing we won't spend anywhere close to that on replacements. They are also no players on the market as good as Sanchez who we can realistically sign. Not looking forward to the shit storm that next summer is going to be. I'd throw crazy money at Liverpool next summer for Mane if we have a good season and Liverpool have a shit one.

Pretty obvious that we can't sign anyone else without getting rid of some players because we're up against the maximum allowed wage increase as dictated by PL rules. This was a known thing heading into the summer.
