He'd be too expensive, we can't be spending 40mill on squad replacements, which is probably around what Everton would demand for him.

look there are a few obvious problems with that proposed transfer or any proposed transfer:

2 of our best players are in contract limbo. how on earth can we even figure out what the plan is for next year when we dont know if ozil and alexis are staying?
if they leave or one of them leaves, that obviously alters everything
we dont know if chamberlain is staying, or what other squad players might be leaving
we dont really know how much we have to spend, what our wage bill will look like, or anything else

we have so many squad types in our team (walcott, ox, giroud, arguably ramsey, welbeck, gibbs, el neny, wilshere, etc) and we have no idea who is staying, who is going, who is starting, who is on the bench, etc.

and yet we are paralyzed because we're apparently chasing mbappe, and mbpappe is probably waiting because he has no idea what is going to happen with our squad.

this club makes it so difficult to be optimistic. fucking hell.

That's kind of the point though. He is in a similar bracket as Ox and while I want the latter to sign a new deal, I wouldn't have been so keen on signing him if he were at another club. The big difference though is that Ox is far more versatile so he can actually be useful in a few areas which isn't the case for Barkley.

I'd rather give that game time to the likes of Iwobi and the kids.

We the fans don't know what's going on but as fans we also have no idea what the club knows or don't know, or what deals they're currently working on. 5 players could be negotiating with other clubs to leave as we speak, Chamberlain/Ozil/Sanchez could have already signed or agreed on a new contract, we could have deals in place ready to go if Mbappé doesn't sign and also if he does.

And therein lies the major fault with AW & Co & their approach to the squad.
IMO they need to give the players in limbo a reason to stay, or not as the case may be.
Either way the club needs to man up and take the responsibility one way or the other, and then get on with it accordingly.

The same issues remain regardless of if Ozil & Sanchez stay or go - worst case scenario we sign top flight players in those key positions as already needed, and any departures are only a problem if you compromised your signings, which is probably why they'd leave in any case.

Bottom line blaming the 'uncertainty' for not getting the job done is BS, and says more about the club as having a weak & reactionary mentality with no genuine plan in place. As such if I was a top flight player there is literally no reason to sign.

The Mail reckon we're in for Martial if Mbappe happens. I wouldn't say no but he's the opposite issue of Lacazette, lots of talent but little of the strikers instincts and end product.

I suspect that Martial would be signed in addition to Lacazette, with the latter at CF and Martial as WF.
The question would then become a question of price with 1 or 2 of Martial / Lemar / Mahrez, depending on what shape AW goes with. If we retain the 3421 then I'd prefer Lemar next to Ozil, whilst if we returned to the 4231 then perhaps Martial & Mahrez on the flanks.

Yep. If Barkley came in he'd only fit as a CAM. You are talking about him taking one of Ozil or Sanchez spots in that instance. He's just not good enough for that sort of role at arsenal. And he plays with his head down, he'd be a terrible fit. Can't imagine Wenger spending half of the £40m being talked about on him.

Yep. If Barkley came in he'd only fit as a CAM. You are talking about him taking one of Ozil or Sanchez spots in that instance. He's just not good enough for that sort of role at arsenal. And he plays with his head down, he'd be a terrible fit. Can't imagine Wenger spending half of the £40m being talked about on him.

As I said I don't necessarily want Barkley & I don't see it being any better if you swapped Barkley & Rambo,
as opposed to replacing Barkley with Neita / Goretzka as CM, or even Mahrez or Martial as CAM/WF.
I don't think we need a like for like replacement & role IF Ozil departs, as opposed to needing to replace the goals and assists if both Sanchez & Ozil depart.
As it stands we're looking for a new CF as we have been for the last 3-4 seasons.
If we lose both Sanchez & Ozil we then need a new attack.

Barkley is a worse passer than Ramsey and more importantly he does fuck all in defence. He's an explosive player on his day but those days are far too infrequent.

combined with the earlier article re combos of signings it appears that we are perhaps looking at options for both CF & WF options. If we are to lose Sanchez then what would be an 'acceptable ' option/s?
For argument sake we are supposedly favourites to sign any of Lacazette, Lemar & Mahrez = would they be an acceptable combo as CF & WFs with Ozil as CAM? Is / should the talk re Martial be seen as being serious & who would he replace (if anyone).

aguero doesn't play enough games, and i doubt he'd want to come here. you'd essentially be signing up to have danny welbeck play 40-50% of our games next season

it seems as if aguero's injured too much these days.. but if you actually look at the numbers, he's played 45 games (31 league), 44 (30), 42 (32) in the past 3 seasons....

Its still a fair few games missed. You'd need to hold onto Giroud to deal with it.
